We all sat in Mike's basement, I stopped by my house earlier and got el so that she wasn't alone anymore

Dustin was muttering to himself While walking in circles and looking down at some compasses and we all sat and watched him

"I need to see your compasses all of your compasses, right now!" He suddenly yells and lucas and Mike hand him their compasses

"Y/n give me your compass" Dustin said holding out his hand to me expecting a compass

"Domt have one dude" I said then Dustin looked at me confused

"Why don't you have a compass?" He asked more confused than ever

"I don't need one" I say then Dustin sighs and walks away with the other compasses

"Anyway they’re all facing north, right?" He said as the boys crowded around him

"Yeah so?" Mike said looking at the compass

"Well, that’s not true north!" Dustin said and we all looked at him confused and Mike asked what he meant

"I mean exactly what I just said. That’s not true north. Are you both seriously this dense?" He said stopping for a second "The sun rises in the east, and it sets in the west. Right?
Which means that’s true north."

"What are you talking about man" lucas says stopping dustins rambling

"So are you saying our compasses are broken?" Mike said and Dustin looked at him like he was the dumbest person on earth

"Do you even understand how a compass works?
Do you see a battery pack in this? No.
No, you don’t. Because it doesn’t need one. The needle’s naturally drawn to the Earth’s magnetic North Pole." He explained and we were all still very confused

"So what's wrong with them?" I asked and Dustin sighed

"Well, that’s what I couldn’t figure out, but then I remembered.
You can change the direction of a compass with a magnet.
If there’s the presence of a more powerful magnetic field, the needle deflects to that power. And then I remembered what Mr.Clarke said.
The gate would have so much power It could disrupt the electromagnetic field" He explained and we all continued to stare

"Yeah exactly" Mike mumbled to himself then Dustin continued his explanation

"Meaning, if we follow the compasses’ north...They should lead us to the gate"

"How much further?" Lucas asked as we all continued walking and Dustin sighed

"I don't know, it only tells direction, not distance. You really need to learn more about compasses, just saying" Dustin said

"Do you thinks she's acting weird?" Lucas asked as he looked back at Mike and eleven who were walking behind us

"Your asking if the weirdo is acting weird?" Dustin said and I punched his shoulder for calling el weird
