A gentle melody filled my room as I softly hummed along. I put the finishing touches on my makeup before situating my crown on my head and fixing my hair. I stood up from the chair in front of my vanity and walked over to my closet in sways that matched up with the music. I walked along the lines of clothes until I found my favorite cloak.
I placed it on my shoulders and fastened it before walking over to my full-length mirror and getting a good look at myself. My translucent cloak partially obscured the outfit, but you could still see the basics of it. Like the black sleeveless top, pants, and corset with gold accents. It was more difficult to make out the partially transparent sleeve and skirt thing. I'm not entirely sure what either of them are called, but I think they look nice.
A proud smile fell upon my face as I began to make my exit. I opened my door and began walking away from my music-filled room. I continued down the long, beautifully decorated but cold halls, still humming the song that had been playing from my record player. I passed by a few people as I walked, the staff that maintained and helped run the palace. We silently greeted each other with a slight bow before continuing with our days. They were just small gestures to show respect, but it still feels nice to be treated that way.
My pace quickened as I grew closer to the dining room. The gentle smell of freshly cooked food began to fill the hall, causing the hunger that had been lingering in my stomach all morning to make itself known. My pace slowed just as I made it to the threshold of the dining room entrance.
"Ah, Ranboo, we're glad you finally decided to show up," The king greeted, their voice still heavy from sleep. Their lilac hair was messily thrown into a low ponytail and they were still wearing the clothes they had gone to sleep in.
"Sorry mama," A laugh escaped my mouth as I took my place at the table, "I guess I got a little carried away getting ready."
"That's quite all right dear." The queen's gaze met my own and they smiled before glancing over at the king, "At least someone here attempts to look presentable." Compared to the king's messy appearance the queen's simple white dress and braided black hair was stunning.
"Vev, seriously," The king huffed.
"Mom has a point, you should at the very least brush your hair," I laughed, before finally starting on my food.
"Wow," The king scoffed, wiping a fake tear from their eye, "I didn't know you two hated how I looked that much."
"Sorry mama," The words had already left my mouth before I realized I had started speaking.
"Sweetie, don't encourage them, they brought this upon themselves," The queen scolded
"Sorry," I muttered. There was a moment of silence as everyone took a moment to eat. The fruit salad that mainly consisted of chorus fruit, a few plants from the overworld, and bits of diced endermite was amazing as always. I have yet to understand how the chef manages to make such a simple dish taste as good as this. It's kind of scary, but I'm not complaining.
"So, Ranboo, how have your studies been going," The king spoke up.
"They've been good," I said through mouthfuls of food, "My teacher says I'm flying through my lessons."
"I'm glad to hear it," The king said before they continued eating.
"It won't be too long now until you'll be taking our place," The queen laughed
"I still have a few decades before I'm anywhere close to being ready for that," I said. A light blush dusted my face as a gentle embarrassment crept up my chest.
