Seoul's KQ High - 14:24 - 1 Year Ago'Am bored.'
"Thank you, Yeosang and Jukyun-ssi. Next up, we have Wooyoung and his mother, Jung Miyeon."
'Am no longer bored-'
My mom and I exchanged smiles before we both stood up and walked to the front of the classroom, getting two thumbs up from Yeosang and his dad.
I cleared my throat and motioned towards my mom in a slightly exaggerated manner. "This beautiful lady here who's called my mother works with the police and stuff analyzing crime as a Crime Analyst, which is a profession and process in which a set of quantitative and qualitative techniques are used to analyze data valuable to police agencies and their communities."
I leaned towards my mom and whispered, "Did I say that right?"
"Yes, you did," She chuckled, turning towards the class. "That includes the analysis of crime and criminals, crime victims, disorder, quality of life issues, traffic issues, and internal police operations, and its results support criminal investigation and prosecution, patrol activities, crime prevention and reduction strategies, problem solving, and the evaluation of police efforts."
"If I remember correctly, there's five different types of crime analysis, right?" I tilted my head.
"Yes. There's intelligence analysis, criminal investigative analysis, tactical crime analysis, strategic crime analysis, and administrative crime analysis."
I saw Changbin raise his hand from his spot in the back and mentally face palmed.
"Can you explain the difference between all those? I never remember-" He chuckled awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck.
My mom just had an amused twinkle in her eye as she began to explain.
"The purposes of intelligence analysis are to identify networks of offenders and criminal activity as well as to assist the police in apprehending those violators of the law. These networks are typically related to organized crime, gangs, drug traffickers, prostitution rings, financial fraud rings, or combinations of these criminal enterprises. Intelligence analysis is conducted within police departments and is centrally concerned with criminal activity occurring within specific jurisdictions; however, police departments often work with neighboring jurisdictions and national officials concerning criminal activity in their local areas."
She looked over at me and I knew I had to explain the next one.
"Criminal investigative analysis. This type of analysis entails the process of constructing "profiles" of offenders who have committed serious crimes. Criminal investigative analysts use the elements of the crimes these offenders have committed to infer certain things about the offenders, including characteristics such as personality type, social habits, and work habits. For example, a crime scene that is very bloody and messy implies a different type of offender than does a crime scene where the offender has cleaned up all the blood."
I took a breath before continuing, "The primary purpose of criminal investigative analysis is to help criminal investigators identify and prioritize suspects by inferring the personal characteristics of likely offenders. This very specific type of crime analysis is done primarily on the national police level, as the crime patterns associated with serious crimes frequently cross jurisdictional boundaries."
"Nice job," My mom muttered.
"I rehearsed that all night-" I whispered back.
My mom cleared her throat once again and began.
