"You have to go, Olive! This is the prom we are talking about!" Alice whined. I pulled off my glasses and stared her straight in the eyes.
"This is softball we are talking about." I dead panned. "I'm not going to miss practicing for the upcoming season just because I'm going to a stupid, childish dance! Plus, no one asked me."
Alice gave me the most shocked look ever in history. In. History.
"Please, please, please! You don't even need a date! Do it for me? Jason's going to me there with McKenna, and Luke will be there too!"
"Why would I ever care what Luke is doing?" I asked, honestly wanting her answer. "He's my brothers best friend, I see him enough." I gruffly add.
Rolling her eyes, she stood up and walked over to my bedroom door. "Jason! Come here!" She hollered. This time I rolled my eyes and shut the door. "Hey!" She protested.
"What do you want?" Jason asked as he opened my door again.
"Tell your sister she has to come to Prom!" She insisted.
"Olive you're coming to the prom. No questions asked."
"Oh yeah, make me!" I ordered. Knowing I was faster than him, Jason sighed in defeat. "Its getting closer and closer to my last season at this horrid high school and if I'm lucky i can get into a good college with a softball degree. I'm not giving up when I'm so close I can almost taste it."

The sun disappeared behind clouds, then reappeared seconds later. This was my fifth lap around the whole field and I was barely sweaty. My legs hurt, but not as much as any other person. I've prepared for things like this and it really comes in handy.I pull my headphones out of my ears and slow down when I see Luke waiting for me by the dugout. "What?" I question.
"Jason couldn't come pick you up. I'm taking you home." He said gesturing to his rusty old truck.
"No thanks I'll run." I insisted.
"It wasn't a question. I'm driving you home, probably because your brother would kill me if he found out I was letting you walk on the side of the road. Come on before I make sure you don't have dessert tonight."
Rolling my eyes, I hopped into the passenger seat of his mangy old truck. "Wasn't going to anyways. Are you staying at my house for dinner?"
"Yeah, I'm staying the night too. Olive?"
"What?" I ask, turning to face him.
"Why do you hate me?"
Obviously, this question took me back a little because I about choked on my own spit. Smooth, Olive, real smooth.
"I don't hate you Luke. You're just not on my top 5." I stated bluntly, looking at the road ahead of us.
"Why am I not on your top five? We've known each other since we were three, I've been your brothers best friend since then and I've always stuck up for you. I just don't-"
"Luke!" I yell, before all hell breaks loose.
****I wake up in an unfamiliar bed, my head pounding and everything seeming like a blur. A soft beeping noise, filled the silence and I tried focusing in on where I was.
I laid still on a white, hospital bed. One boot on my right foot and one bandage on my left wrist. I pulled up and felt my forehead, and sure enough there was another bandage there too.
Suddenly, everything came back into my mind.
*"Luke!" I yell, before all hell breaks loose. A huge semi, comes beeping towards us and I jerk Luke's steering wheel back into our lane. Even though we missed the semi, another truck came crashing into us from my side of the vehicle.
