Olivia's Pov:
You can say I kind of predicted the future.
As I was getting ready for my date with Mason, I get a call... From Mason.
"Hey, um, Olivia, what are you doing?" He asked nervously, constantly stuttering. "I don't think we can go on a date anymore, Olivia. I'm really sorry-"
I interrupt him, gently putting my dress back onto my hanger. I sighed quietly as i took a seat on my bed. "Don't worry about it. We just gotta stay best friends, okay. Just, um, have fun with Alice-"
"Wait, how do you know I'm with Alice. I thought you thought she hated me?"
I chuckled a little bit, "I just have a sixth sense ya know. No but really, have a good time okay? And make sure you tell Alice to call me when you're done."
So I hang up.
I know, I said I had prepared myself for this to happen. i mean the signs were all right there. I tried, real hard, like you know, took 5 minutes to think the whole situation over, and then gave up on being calm.
I grabbed my shoes and jacket, and was out of the door. Jason came out after me, being the protective brother that he is. "Where do you think you're going? I thought you had a date, and you're going out looking like that?"
I smiled a little, " uh no, I-I cancelled. I'm going to see a friend right now and I will call you when I'm on my way home." I kissed his cheek and hopped into my truck before he could respond. As I drove off, I realized I had only one person left to go to.
I picked up my phone and called him. "Olivia, hey what's up cutie?"
"I'm pulling into your driveway, come and let me in."
As I stepped into his house, I hugged my good friend and sighed. "How was your trip?"
"You do know that Alice isn't here right? Some guy came and picked her up-" He paused as he stepped aside, and let me walk to the living room. "Wait, aren't you supposed to be on a date right now?"
I will be completely honest when I say it took every ounce of my will power to not break down in tears as he said that. I sat down on their fluffy grey couch and hugged my knees to my chest. Cole came and sat next to me, wrapping his arms around me and holding me tight.
"He was the guy, wasn't he? The one you were supposed to go with tonight?"
As I nodded, the tears started to fall freely. That son of a bitch, making me think he had the same feelings for me. I fucking felt like I was in love with him, when in reality he was only using me for my best friend.
And he expected me to not figure it out? That stupid asshole, messing with my emotions.
"That fucking jerk, you want me to fuck him up for you because I will. You deserve so much better than that Oli, so much better. And he has the nerve to go back out with my sister? I knew I had seen him some where before, I'm such an idiot for not realizing he was with her before-"
I smiled, holding onto him just slightly tighter. "As much as I would love for you to kick his ass for me, he is making your sister happy and thats something we both want. Plus, he's kind of one of my best friends, even though now I don't really know why."
As I soaked in self pity, Cole was planning redemption, muttering what I should do as he rubbed my back. "You should have a fake boyfriend, just to make him jealous! Oh my gosh, I am so excited for this! You should do it, I have a perfect guy in mind!"
I smiled up at him, finally seeing a bright side to the afternoon. "Even though I don't want to make him jealous like I said; who is the guy you have in mind?"
Cole smirked, "Me."
********
The next morning, Cole and I were still in his living room. As I wallowed in self pity, he paced around the room rubbing his hands together like he had a big master plan. "So this is how it's going to go."
"You're going to get me some coffee," I interrupted, pouting my lips making him finally caved in.
"Fine, after I reveal my big plan." Cole continued to pace, smiling like a freak. "When Mason and Alice come in this morning, not knowing you are gonna be here, we are going to act like we are together. Like nothing had happened last night and that you are completely over him."
Standing, I say; "I'm not a slut and thats the assumption they're gonna make when Alice comes home and sees me with her brother." After throwing his hands in the air like the drama queen he is, Cole followed me into his kitchen.
I couldn't wait any longer for my coffee, the boy was going to give me a headache. "Fine, then I guess we can give it some time. I mean, we can act like we are going on dates and stuff, maybe kiss a little-"
And that's why I had to borrow one of Cole's shirts. Yeah, I spilled my stupid coffee all over my outfit, and since Alice's clothes were too small for me, I had to borrow Cole's shirt. Only shirt though, because his shorts were falling off of my small body, down to my knees. So after taking Cole's longest shirt, I was in his kitchen with only that on.
And undergarments of course.
But with just my luck, someone walked through their front door. No, not Alice and Mason, but their mom..
Their mom, is one of the coolest people I know, but at this time. Not so much.
"Cole, Olivia-" she paused as she stepped foot into the kitchen, making me pull Cole's shirt down even farther. "I'm going to ask only once and I want a reasonable answer. What the hell is going on here?"
As I stuttered for a response, clearly embarrassed, Cole takes this as his chance to act like an idiot. "We hooked up last night-"
"Cole!" I yelled, smacking his arm and interrupting him before he started something we couldn't get out of. "That is a huge lie, I'm sorry ma'am I spilt my coffee all over my outfit not long ago, and had to borrow some of Cole's clothes."
Mrs. Thompson sighed an obvious sigh of relief. "You about gave me a heart attack, dear. Now Cole get moving and make us ladies some more coffee!"
Did I say I loved her?
******
So, after about an hour and a half of sitting with Mrs. Thompson in the kitchen and making Cole slave away for us, I started my car and headed home before Alice would return from her night with Mason. Coming home to a protective brother and a now recently protective dad, in another guys shirt was probably not the best idea I've ever had.
"Where'd you go last night?" My dad interrogated.
"You said you were going to a 'friend's' house." My brother added on.
Ignoring them, I went up stairs to my bed room, crawled into bed and fell asleep to the smell of Cole's cologne and the sweet sound of Ed Sheeran.
