Olivia's POV:
"Oh my gosh!" Mrs. Smith squealed, when she walked through my front door. Coach immediately greeted her, but she was still freaking out. I made it worse when I walked up behind Coach Smith, and we made eye contact. "Honey, honey. Is that her? Oh my lord, are you Olivia Kolton?" She asked, pushing her husband out of the way and hugging me.
It took me by surprise, but I soon hugged her back. "Yeah, this is she." I muttered into her hair. Noticing I was struggling for air, Coach pulled her off of me and back to his side. "It's so nice to meet you, Mrs. Smith."
"Oh, honey isn't she just a darling?" She asked, looking up to my coach for affirmation. "Anyways, I will calm down soon dear, I am just so excited to finally meet you. I've gone to every game my husband here has coached, and when I first saw you I was amazed."
"Thank y-"
"Just the way you always stand up to those boys, really gives me hope for this generation of women, you know?"
I nodded, already liking this woman. She took a deep breath and composed herself. "So, have you tried my desserts? I hope they're good, I was kind of rushed." She said, glaring up at her husband. Coach just smiled and flung his arm around her shoulder, and kissed her temple.
"I haven't had the time, actually. Why don't we all do to the kitchen and make sure my boys aren't destroying my house."
"Your boys?" Mrs. Smith laughed, as we walked through the hallways.
"Oh, I've always called them that. I don't know, they're all my best friends." I say scratching my neck uncomfortably, noticing how that could've sounded weird. "I've grown up with them and I'm very protective."
"Oli!" All the boys cheer when we enter my kitchen. "We've been waiting for you, to eat the pizza." Aaron explains.
"Because we're scared of what you'd do if it was all gone when you came back." I laughed, and turned back to Mrs. Smith.
Whispering I said, "At least they know what I'd do." I turned back to my boys. "Let's eat!" I yelled, racing the boys to the food. It's always fun when they treated me like one of them, like a little sister. I was pushed and shoved, but I still managed to make my way to the stack of pizza first.
*******
"So, your boys huh?"
"What are you talking about?" I asked Cole, picking up my trash and walking to the kitchen.
"Everyone heard yours and Mrs. Smiths' conversation in the hallway. " He paused, handing me his trash and grabbing a soda for himself. "Your boys?" He asked yet again.
"Well, if you heard our conversation then you should know what I said when she asked the same question. You all are my best friends, and I've grown up with them." I told him, pointing to everyone in the living room. "I'm very protective of them, and they know it. They're like more brothers. They treat me just like family, and thats what we are. One big family."
He just nodded, and leaned against my fridge. "I'm gonna go out there," I said quietly, suddenly shy. He nodded again and I walked past him, into the living room where everyone was playing games.
"You alright, dear?" Mrs. Smith asked as I took a seat next to her. I smiled as genuinely as I could and nodded, turning back to the game the boys were playing. I could tell Mrs. Smith was whispering to her husband, but I didn't really care. The only thing was bothering me, was that something was obviously wrong with Cole.
Speak of the Devil,
Coley: I'll see you whenever I see you Oli. Thanks for letting me help you today, I had a lot of fun.
He's just leaving? Leaving without a proper goodbye? No, he's going to tell me what's wrong.
So I ran outside, and just barely caught him before he drove off. I sprinted to his car, huffing and puffing, I threw his passenger seat door open and jumped in before he drove away. "What do you think you're doing?" I asked him, crossing my arms across my chest.
"What do you think you're doing? You could've gotten hurt!" I shrugged, making him go on. When he didn't say anything, I rolled my eyes and spoke up.
"Why'd you just leave? You could've stepped in and said goodbye to everyone. If you have somewhere to go, then I'm not gonna stop you but I just wanna know why you were acting so weird."
Cole ruffled his brown hair, and looked out the window, thinking of how to reply. "Cole, you never leave without saying goodbye."
"I did say goodbye-"
"Texting doesn't count,"
Cole sighed, looking at me, looking away, and then repeating again. "Alice said my mom wanted me home soon-" I made him look at me, because he couldn't hold eye contact, making me know he's lying.
"I sense jealousy," I tease him, not expecting a real reaction out of him.
"Well, what do you think I felt when your house was full of guys?" My mouth dropped open when I realized what he had said. Then suddenly I felt like I had to be defensive.
"My house is always filled with boys. I'm always the only girl. And you know I only see those boys as brothers, and I'm only family to them." My eyes darkened, really feeling defensive. "You know I play ball with them, and that's not going to change just because you're getting jealous over absolutely nothing!"
I opened the car door and stepped out. "They're my best friends, Cole."
I'll admit I was feeling a bit dramatic. So...
I slammed the car door, probably a little bit too hard. But, hey!
It's his fault, that stupid jealous boy.
He drove away, and I walked back to my house, looking up just in time to see the boys hiding behind the curtains. I smiled, shaking my head as I entered my house. The boys were acting "natural" as they whistled and walked around aimlessly.
"Spying requires you to have ninja skills. Next time you want to watch me through my own curtains, make sure I don't see you, you dingleberries."
"You good?" Coach Smith asks, putting a hand on my shoulder. I nod, smiling the best I could.
"Yeah," I said looking at every last one of my boys. "I'm good."
