Being 23 and not having a job is pretty fucking ridiculous. Before college, I worked full-time in the summers and part-time during the school year, so I wasn't broke. But since Nina is the only one with a job and she and my parents all the way in Japan are nagging me, I decided to take this day to search for jobs.
Not fucking Walmart either.
After seeing Noah's house and how hard he works to get his fancy things, it kind of inspired me. Now, not a lot of people inspire me besides myself, but just knowing that he lives completely alone with no other help is pretty impressive.
Looking on the internet was useless, I knew that too, so with the confidence I still had running through my veins, I got dressed, grabbed my keys, and went out.
I worked at a small restaurant when I was in high school, but that was awful, and I came home smelling like onions every day.
So I decided I would go into a bookstore. It's quiet, not a ton of people come in, and it's very independent. I think it would be a good fit. I tried Barnes and Noble first.
During the time I went in, it was actually busier than I expected, but I asked the register if they were hiring anyways.
Surprisingly, the person working the register was the manager, and they actually interviewed me on the spot. Not something I expected or was ready for.
She asked me the normal job-hiring questions, and I answered honestly, and with a smile on my face. Although I tried my best to keep eye contact with her, I did look away a couple times.
"And, do you have comfortable close-toed shoes that aren't tennis shoes?"
I nod.
"Perfect. When are you free?"
"I'm free whenever," I smile.
"Great. Do you want to come in tomorrow and we'll get you all set up and ready to go?"
I nod, "Yeah of course. That works."
I think I just got the job. I tried to restrain myself, but I couldn't hide the smile on my face. It literally wouldn't go away as much as I tried.
"Okay, thank you for coming in, Emma. I'll text you, and I'll see you tomorrow."
"Thank you!"
Well, that was way easier than I expected.

"I got the job!" I squeal as I run to Nina.
We both start screaming, jumping up and down like teenagers. She hugs me, then tells me I can finally get out of the house.
In college, I studied business but I didn't really have a subject I was totally set on, so I just stuck with what everything in this world uses. Although, it hasn't really gotten me far.
After me and Nina celebrate, I go back to my room. I decide to text Noah to let him know as well. I feel like we are getting on very well.
He reacted well, telling me congratulations and asking when I start my shifts. Hopefully, he's not a reader though. That would be kind of embarrassing if he came in.
Never mind, like me going into Walmart isn't embarrassing.
