After 20 minutes, he comes back up, leaving the girl downstairs.
"I think I made a mistake," He sighs exasperated, "She is so annoying. Like she would just not stop crying and screaming. Like... it's not that bad. At least you're not being shipped off to Herald." He shudders, "Everyone hates Herald."
I side-eye Sao, a smile creeping onto my face.
"I see you guys are getting along."
Sao sits up straight, "I have come to the conclusion that Larissa isn't as bad as I perceived her to be. For a girl, she is actually sorta funny."
"Thanks," I say sarcastically, rolling my eyes.
"I hope you give that same respect to Neso."
We hum, skeptical.
"She's a mix between you two. Crazy, and sexy."
I cringe, furrowing my brows, ew, "Who's who?"
"That's for you to decipher."
"Mmhkay."
"Well! I'm tired and I am going to bed. Sao, I suggest you sleep on the other couch with Larissa because the basement is a mess right now."
"Did you kill her?" I yell.
"No!" He laughs, "She just somehow got ahold of one of my lamps and threw it at me so there's glass everywhere.
I relax, "Good."
-
I wake up in the morning to a quiet house and the cat standing over me staring.
I push her off, then stand up. I check the bedroom first, no one. I check the kitchen, no one. I finally check the basement, and as quiet as it was up here, it wasn't quiet down here.
The sight was worse than anything I'd ever seen before. Worse than Noah killing that girl.
On Sao's mattress was the girl laying on her back, legs wide and a head between the legs. Next to her, Sao on his back as well with one hand on his breast and another on his dick.
I felt nauseous.
No one noticed me, and thank god, so I run back upstairs.
Why with her? Why with him?
I felt angry, and soon tears were running down my face. The next thing I knew, I was putting on my shoes, grabbing a jacket, then running out the door.
It was a sunny day, people were gardening in their yards and mowing their lawns, walking their dogs, and riding bikes down the street.
It felt like there was someone on every corner.
I start walking, slowly. I felt like everyone was looking at me; when I passed their yard, they just immediately turn.
Yet, no one was actually looking at me besides one man. He was young, and he had a confused look on his face, like he was studying me.
I ignore him, then walk past where he is on the other side of the street. Then, I feel him walking after me, slowly first, but as I speed up, he speeds up.
Now I'm running, and he's running after me.
"Stop running!" He yells, "I'm not trying to hurt you!"
I keep running.
He was faster than me, and with the lousy sandals I had on, I wasn't going to get any faster.
He grabs the hood of the jacket, then falls down to the grass next to me, pulling me down with him.
He flips my body around then sits on my back, holding my wrists together.
"I'm not trying to hurt you," He repeats, calmer this time.
I start sobbing. I was scared, tired, and confused. Running had already gotten the breath out of me and combined with being terrified, I could barely breath.
"I'm Officer Armstrong. I'm with the police. Are you Emma Ogawa?"
"No," I say, my voice struggling, "My name is Larissa."
