Chapter 15

Blake's Pov

It felt like days but in reality it has only been a little over 24 hours. In that time Mel has not moved once, she just laid there. She has a bruise on the left side of her beautiful face, they say that happened when she hit the ground. What's keeping her under is the swelling to her brain. They came and took her for an X-ray not too long ago, Callie said the swelling gone down a lot. Melanie's parents got in sometime late last night, they stayed until early this morning. I put them in a hotel just until I could get someone in the house to clean up the blood. No one needed to see that. Amber and DJ took Nate home with them last night, a first he didn't want to go but I talked to and he went. The police came and talked to me and Nate. The cops told me that the patio door was open and it might have been a burglary gone wrong. I told them about Ciara they said they would look into it and get back to me. I don't know what it was but something about this didn't sit right with me.

"Mel.....baby you have to wake up. I need you, Nate needs you. There is no way I can raise him without you. I can barely do laundry without messing it up, all I can cook is cereal. This might sound selfish I know but I-I just can't live without you and you have to be alright. I know you're pissed at me right now so if not for me wake up for Nate and our unborn baby." I said and she made no movement I sighed and held her hand tight and kissed it I sat there until eventually I dozed off. 

I was woken up later by a frantic beeping sound, I quickly sat up and hit the nurses button, I had no idea what was going on, a nurse came in she looked at the monitors

"Oh no." She said then called to someone else

"What's wrong?" I asked in a panic just then the other nurse came in 

"Page OB now!" The first nurse said

"What wrong? Is it the baby?" 

"Yes the baby is in distress, the placenta could be damaged from the fall." She said 

"So what does that mean?" I asked confused 

"We'll know more when the OB gets here, there she is." She said motioning to the door as Dr. Lee rushed in

"What happened?" She asked

"The baby is in distress, possible placenta damage." The nurse told her

"Dr. Lee what does this mean?" I asked her

"It means this baby needs to come out now."

"But it's too soon."

"Melanie is 22 weeks the baby could come out with a chance of survival, I just need your permission."

"What are her chances? T-the baby's I mean."

"About 10%." She answered and I felt my heart stop

"Blake I need a decision now or the baby has a 0% chance and it could be bad for Melanie too." She told me and I sighed 

"O-okay, okay do it." I said 

"Alright let's do this. Are you coming Blake?" She asked and I nodded 

"They're going to be fine." She said 

'They're going to be fine.' I was beginning to lose hope in that sentence, as I stood here looking at my newborn son. He was so small no bigger than my hand, he weighed in at 1 pound, 2 ounces. He was hooked up to so many tubes and wires, and there was no guarantee that he would make it through the night. Then there my wife, she still hasn't woken up, I felt like I was dying here waiting for her to wake up. I texted her parents and told them what was happening, they were on their way back down and my parents were on their way from Oklahoma now. I felt a hand on my shoulder, I looked down and saw Mark Melanie's dad.
