"Tyke, the girl you're always with. The one you follow around like a puppy, what's the deal?"
"She's my friend." Usually he would not be playing video games in the den with his frat brothers at this time of day, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Apparently he was friendless for the day, that, and also he was up to date in all his subjects. With Misty out, interviewing some famous author. Dennis darting home for some family emergency. And the twins, having friends other than him whom they made plans with. He was left alone, with no option than to entertain his frat brothers.
Why did he not want to hang out with them?
It was not that they were bad people, or company for that matter. It was just, one could only take so much of Kappa Delta Pi, until they wanted to bash their head against a wall. He figured they peaked maturity in high school, which made it hard to have meaningful interactions. It was, 'keg this', 'look at that chick', and 'this game is legit'.
"Yeah, but what's she like?"
"You gotta be more specific." Tyler answered, his mind mainly focused on the rainbow road in front of him.
"We heard she was hardcore, like the terminator or something."
"Yeah, someone said she's an A.I prototype that the robotics department built."
"Who are you hanging out with?" Tyler felt very much like a disappointed father at that moment.
"It's just rumours flying around. But, we've seen her laugh so..."
"When?" Tyler asked, giving himself a silent cheer when his banana peel hit his intended target.
"Not cool, man! When you guys had your moment in the hammock."
"You were spying on us?" Tyler asked, pausing the game to stare at their sheepish faces.
"It wasn't so much spying, more like intrigue." The look of disappointment Tyler levelled them with, had them shifting uncomfortably in their seats.
"You guys need to get a life," Tyler deadpanned.
"Do you like her, cause she's real pretty."
"Don't even think about it."
_ _ _
"Tyke." Tyler rolled his eyes, as he saw who was approaching him. As if his day could not get any worse. First there was no Misty to annoy, second his frat brothers made him feel mature, and now this. All he wanted was to get some ramen to gorge on, but even that had to get screwed up. He understood the need to seem 'manly', he himself loved the strength that came with being a male. Maybe it was a primal thing, but he always saw himself as a provider and a protector. However, what he did not understand, was how one could translate healthy masculinity, to mean 'macho'. When did 'sensitivity', become something negative? When did crying become a weakness? When did pain become abnormal?
However, he had never done anything about it... consciously... as original Tyler. He could remember random citations popping up in his school record, without his knowledge. Only, to learn from Dennis that he had pummelled another boy, for mocking the pain of others. Obviously there was at least one thing him and 2.0 agreed on; why macho men, were pretty high up in their dislike list.
"What do you want?"
"I have a question for you. You've been acting like a fly buzzing around this girl, not that I can blame you, she's hot."
"I'm really not in the mood." Tyler ground out, breathing heavily in a bid to control his emotions.
"I'll make this quick then, are you guys a thing?" Shaking his head, Tyler scoffed before turning around to walk away. "Cause if not, then give the rest of us a chance."
"I'd shut up if I were you," Tyler gritted out, fists clenched tightly.
"Oh what? Are you going to cry..."
