Hey guys! Sorry for not updating soon. Hope you enjoy this new chapter!
I give Cameron one last secretive smile before I head down to the office, whistling as I stroll down the hallway.
Perfect, I thought, this is going according to plan.
Every year I pull a "beginning of the year" prank. It really starts the year off right. Last year I replaced everything in Vice Principal Burns' office with cardboard replicas. Her reaction was the greatest. Her face was tomato red and she was stomping her foot on the ground yelling at me, even though she had no proof it was me. The school board almost fired her for that, but sadly they decided to let her stay.
Stupid idea on their part, I though bitterly. She acts like a tyrant in the hallways, practically bullying some of the students.
I texted Dakota, my stepbrother, to get an update on his progress.
*ding*
Almost done. This is gonna be sick!
I shook my head. You see, Dakota Brooks is a very special person. His dad had a fling with my mom less than a year after I was born. At first I didn't like Dakota, but soon his personality won me over. I could always be comfortable around him. His boyfriend, Bryce Miles, was helping him set my plan into action. They had met last year and hit it off, even though Bryce is a jock and Dakota is theatre nerd. My other friend, Johanna, was the lookout and the brains of this plan. Other than me of course.
I head to the office and nod to Johanna as I walk by her post. She winks at me and I continue walking. I slowly arrive at the door and preform a special knock on the door before opening it. The door creaks open, and I gasp at the sight in front of me. The boys had really out done themselves. Yellow post-it notes covered every inch of the entire office, except where the boys were now covering up.
"Wow guys. This is going to be the best year yet." I say excitedly, admiring their work.
Dakota's head pops up from behind the desk. "I know, right? Burns is going to be so pissed when she sees this." he says, a wicked grin spreading across his face.
I throw my head back and laugh, excited to see her reaction.
"Alrighty Captain Garner, why don't you do the honors of placing the last sticky note. It is your plan after all." says Bryce, reaching out to hand me the final piece to complete our masterpiece.
I take the sticky note from him and place it in the last open spot on the wall.
"It is done!" says Dakota.
Always the dramatic one.
Bryce went out to get to Johanna so she could admire our, or should I say their handiwork.
She had a similar reaction to me, gasping and hugging them both.
"I hate to break up this touching victory party, but I'm on new kid duty." They laugh and then Dakota replies saying that maybe it won't be as bad as it usually is, maybe I'll make a friend.
I rolled my eyes at the thought. Usually Burns stuck me on duty with the worst kids.
Last year I got stuck with Calum Wilson. He is a major player and a total---well let's just say a long line of swear words. Then the year before that I got a girl named Brittany West, and let me tell you, she was bad news. She worked her way into our group and gained our groups trust. Then she turned on us. Typical. I was the only one that had doubts about her but no one else would listen. Now she thinks she rules the school.
That's a laugh, I think bitterly.
I head down to the office and spot a girl awkwardly standing there, not sure what to do.
That must be her.
I study her as I walk closer. She has blonde, frizzy hair that goes past her shoulders. She is dressed in casual clothing, not anything that is revealing or girly. She dresses kind of like Sage, trying not to draw attention to herself. That's a good strategy for the first day, I think to myself. I clear my throat and my eyes are met with crystal clear blue ones. I notice that there are also swirls of green, sending ripples through the pools of blue. She looked pretty normal, not anything like the people I try to avoid.
"Hey I'm Ava Garner, are you new?"
"Umm...yeah. I'm waiting for my tour guide to come and show me around."
I smile and her before replying. "Well, Blondie, you're in luck. That would be me."
"Blondie?" She asks, confused.
"Yeah, I like to make nicknames for people. It's kind of my thing."
"And Blondie was the best you could come up with?" She said raising her and laughing softly.
"Hey, the perfect nickname doesn't come within the first five minutes of meeting. I mean, at least it's better than 'new girl.' How unoriginal is that?" I said, laughing along with her.
We begin to talk about random things, as though we have been friends for a while. She would fit into your group great, sing-songed the voice in my head.
I hate it when my brain is right.
I show her which classrooms are which and where the lunchrooms are and other stuff.
"Thanks Ava. I have to go to my locker before homeroom, I'll see you at lunch."
I waved goodbye and started down the hall, looking for some of my friends. Then I hear the thing I hate most.
"GARNER!"
Yep, you guessed it.
Vice Principal Burns.
She grabs my arm and drags me toward the office, yelling at me the entire way.
This is NOT how I wanted to start my day.
