Jeremy pushed the stroller as he and Robyn walked back to their apartment. Robyn said, "How long do you think before she drops him then?" Jeremy shrugged, "Not long I'd say. Poor Chris is going to get his heart broken." Robyn shook her head, "How the hell can't he see it? She can barely stand him near her!" Jeremy shrugged, "I guess he badly wanted a relationship, and sounds like he's only ever been with that one girl. From what I can see he's jumped at what he wants this to be and hasn't noticed she's not on board." Robyn shook her head and rolled her eyes, "He's an idiot." Jeremy nudged her as they walked along, "Hey, don't be mean. I feel bad for him." He laughed as they turned a corner, "Rose wasn't impressed." Robyn grinned, "I know, I love that kid. D'you think Shannon heard what she said?" Jeremy shrugged smiling, "Pretty sure Rose wanted her to. Anyway, have you thought anymore about us moving? Robyn sighed, "Not really. Like I said the other day, I'm happy at the apartment. It's three bedrooms so it's not like it's small." Jeremy sighed, "I know, but Jack's almost walking and I think it'd be nice for him to have a garden to play in, and we could have a play room for him as well as his bedroom. Just think about it yeah, there's no rush, but just give it some thought." Robyn nodded and lifted Jack out of the stroller as they approached the entrance to the apartment building, "Have you arranged lunch with Allie yet?" Jeremy folded the stroller and said, "No, what day did you say you were going to court with Dan and Max?" She hoisted Jack onto her hip and opened the door, "Wednesday." Jeremy nodded, "I'll call her tomorrow, see if she's free." He laughed and added, "I can get an update on what Rose thinks about her rival for Chris' affections."
Back in the office on Monday morning, Allie dropped into the paralegal area to grab Robyn to talk about some materials they'd been working on and found Chris showing Amanda a designer bag. Amanda was swooning and turned as Allie approached, "Oh my god Allie, look at this Chris has bought for Shannon. I swear I'd be too nervous to use something so damn gorgeous." Robyn rolled her eyes and Carly said, "I'll never understand paying all that money for a purse." Allie came to look, "Wow Chris, it is a beautiful handbag. Is it her birthday?" He basked in Allie and Amanda's appreciation and shook his head, "No, she showed me this in a magazine, and I just wanted to treat her." Amanda snorted, "Well any time you want to treat your favourite paralegal, just feel free." Allie laughed and Robyn got up to accompany her back to her office.
As soon as the door closed, Robyn gave Allie a look and she sighed, "I know Robyn. I can guarantee we're thinking the same. Robyn huffed, "I sound like my grandma, but she's a gold digger Allie." Chris had taken the purse back to his office and, looking at his watch, grabbed his laptop to take over to Max's office. After Chris had brought Max up to date on the case and they'd reviewed his documents he didn't immediately get up to leave but said, "I wanted to ask you something Max." Max sat back and nodded, "What's on your mind Chris?" He fidgeted with his pen and said, "Well I was wondering, I know there's only Wendy to cover employment here, and Shannon was looking to move firms, so I wondered if there was an opening there for her? She's got a great rep, won a load of cases and I know they won't be as big as ours, but she could definitely step up." Max nodded, "I hear ya Chris. Thing is we've deliberately shrunk our employment department down. We parted company with the other partner who operated in that space a couple of years back and we've never replaced him because there's not enough work." Chris looked disappointed and said, "Right, I see. I don't suppose you could put a word in at Forshaws or anywhere else you know of who might be hiring?" Max shook his head, "Sorry son, I don't have that kind of sway on the employment side. Why don't you suggest she try a head hunter? Ask at reception for the agency we've used in the past." Chris' face brightened, "Thanks Max, I will. Appreciate it, and I'm sure Shannon will too." As he left Max shook his head.
That evening as they were prepping dinner, Daniel asked Allie, "When I went over to see Liam before his vacation today, Carly and Amanda were bickering about some purse Chris has bought. What's that all about?" Allie smiled at him. "He bought it for Shannon. I thought it must be her birthday or something but apparently he just wanted to buy it for her. Thing is Dan, that bag would have set him back like around five thousand dollars." Dan choked, "Jesus Allie, my first car cost less than that!" Allie laughed as her husband recovered from the shock. "Allie sweetheart, am I supposed to buy you things like that?" Allie grinned and crossed to where he was stirring the pan, "Daniel, you know how you bring me coffee when I'm rushing between meetings, or squeeze my hand when no-one's looking just before we go into a tough meeting?" He nodded and she kissed his exposed neck before saying, "Well those things are worth more to me than ten designer handbags." He let go of the wooden spoon, turned to kiss her lips, stared into her navy blue eyes, and said softly, "I love you so much." Allie smiled and replied, "And I you. And if I wanted to have a ridiculously expensive designer bag, I'd pay for it myself." Daniel laughed and rescued his sauce.
