By New Year's Eve, Allie had been working really hard at physical therapy, and although painful, she had managed to get to a point where, with help, she could sit on the edge of the bed. The nurses had managed to get her to the bathroom for a shower, and she was waiting for Daniel to arrive on the large chair. When he came in and saw her, he broke out into the biggest smile, and Allie knew all the pain had been worth it. Max came along ten minutes later bringing coffee for all three of them, Allie's first since she'd been hurt, and he gently held her to him whispering, "You fucking deserve this Allie." Allie sighed when they'd gone, she'd managed to sip some of the latte, and even though the pain was now ripping through her lower body she was truly happy.
Jeremy had arrived for his first day back at work since she'd been admitted, and his mouth twitched up seeing her in the chair. He crouched down at the side of the arm, and said, "How long you been there?" Allie stroked his face, "Ages, wanted to be out when Dan and Max came. I'm in agony Jem, but I'm so damn happy." Jeremy laughed, and grabbed her hand to kiss it, "Okay, let me get you back in the bed. They said on the station you're due pain relief. He gently lifted her from her left side and the pain eased slightly as her took her weight. Allie sighed in relief and relaxed into him as he paused to glance down and check she was okay. She said, "That's better Jem." He laid her carefully on the bed and as the nurse, Caroline arrived with the pills in a cup he said, "You're like a china doll Allie, I'm scared you'll crack if we hug you too hard." She smiled as he gently peeled the bedclothes back over her and he turned to Caroline, "I'll leave you guys to it. I've got a staff meeting now. I suppose I should catch up on some less exciting patients than this one." He winked and left as the nurse passed Allie some water to wash the pills down with.
"Awwww he's so nice. We don't often see him on this floor because his patients tend to be on the sixth. Even when we do he's normally really quiet, but with you he really comes out of himself. Was that his wife yesterday?" Allie nodded, "Yeah, Robyn and I are really close. We work together. I should be helping them with the new baby, but here I am, stuck in a hospital bed." Caroline looked sympathetically, "I know, it sucks, but you'll get there."
Allie felt her head buzzing as the medication took effect, and she drifted off, waking when Susan's Olivia and Jessica softly knocked the door and came in. She smiled in spite of the throb of pain it caused and said, "Oh my God, I didn't think I'd see you guys before you left. This is so lovely. I need to know everything that's been going on, all the stuff you don't tell your mother." Jess was about to launch into an update on her latest boyfriend, but Olivia jumped in first. "Jess and I are here to offer assistance before we flee the nest again. We reckoned you may be in need of a glow up and no offence, but it looks like we were right." Allie couldn't help but laugh, bringing tears to her eyes. Jessica looked alarmed, and she reached over to punch her sister lightly. "Shit, you've upset her Liv. You really don't look that awful Allie." Allie wanted to laugh again, but waving her IV clad hand, she said, "Not crying because you've upset me. You made me laugh, and it flipping hurts so badly to laugh it's unreal." Jessica looked relieved, and Olivia smirked and pulled some supplies from her bag. Mani pedi time. Can't do much with the rest of you, but while we make your hands and feet look glam, Jessica can fill you in on the amazing Austin." She made some dramatic sick noises, Jessica rolled her eyes, and Allie wailed, "Stop, it hurts." They got to work, Jessica chatting away about her boyfriend, and Olivia periodically pulling faces. When they'd finished, they packed away, and Allie said, "I think you need to bring this Austin home for us all to meet." Olivia cackled and said, "If he can survive that, you'll know he's a keeper. Can you imagine, Hey Austin, this is my extended family, none of whom are actually related to me. This is Allie, the random English girl my mom brought home who regularly ends up in the hospital after being attacked by a family of lunatics."
Max and Daniel arrived, and Daniel looked alarmed seeing tears of pain swimming in Allie's eyes. She quickly reassured him the source of the pain was laughter, and he relaxed. Olivia grabbed her stuff and accepted a kiss from Max and then Daniel. As her sister did the same, Olivia turned at the door and said to Allie, "And goodness knows how we'd explain these two." Jeremy appeared also on his lunch break, and Olivia added, "And him, whole different level of weirdness!" Jeremy looked confused, "What's so weird about me?" as they left. Daniel had sat on the edge of the bed, and Allie had sunk into the space between his shoulder and his neck, letting the pain her laughter had caused ebb away. He kissed her gently and whispered to ask her if she was okay. She lifted her head nodding, and Max said, "Okay, my turn." Daniel grinned and moved so Max could take his place. He gently held Allie, and she kissed him and said, "Those two are so funny. Jess was telling me about her boyfriend, and Olivia was imagining how she'd explain who we all are." Jeremy had come around the other side of the bed and said, "How come I'm the weirdest?" Allie put her arms around his neck as he bent to kiss her, "Awww Jem I think it could be the whole cutting me open to save my life before marrying my best friend thing." Daniel and Max laughed as he pulled back and showed Allie a pot of yoghurt he had in his hand along with a spoon, "Big reward for making it out of bed this morning. Try and eat it all Allie. Those broken bones need calcium."
