"Punch it again." Dad hollered.

I twisted the key to the Shelby Cobra as dad jiggled the battery cables. It made a few sputtering sounds but still refused to start.

"Damn, okay hang on." He said, picking up a wrench.

"I'm convinced you're never getting this hunk of junk running," Kendall chuckled as she stretched out in the passenger seat.

"He better get it running, this hunk of junk is our ride to Florida in a couple months." I reminded her.

"Maybe I'd have more faith if it would actually start."

"It'll start." Dad said, "Try it again."

I gave the key another turn. This time the engine roared for a few seconds before clicking and dying.

"Almost!" I said enthusiastically.

"Hopefully it doesn't do that while you are driving it."

I glared at Kendall. She couldn't contain her smile, biting her lower lip with her eyebrow raised. I let my eyes wander down her body, admiring how her dirty white tanktop showed her muscles and her shorts complimented her tanned legs. Her hair was pulled back, but her baby hairs clung to her forehead. The garage was sweltering in the summer heat.

"Like what you see?" she taunted.

"Can't complain," I teased as I leaned into her, hovering a few inches away from her lips, "you are gorgeous."

"Shut up and kiss me already," she whispered in a low growl.

I smiled before pressing my lips to hers. She slipped her tongue in my mouth, stirring the butterflies that have permanently taken residence in my stomach.

"Start it again," Dad said, ignoring the fact we were fulling making out in front of him.

Since he had found out Kendall and I were dating, he had enlisted her to help with getting the Shelby Cobra running. We didn't do much to actually help him, it was more just keeping him company and handing him tools. Though we often got distracted in each other's company. He had learned to ignore us when we would kiss, and we learned we were safe to be ourselves around him. Kendall was basically his third daughter now.

I twisted the key again. The engine clicked then roared again. This time it stayed running. All three of us froze, waiting for it to eventually die. It continued to run uninterrupted.

"Is it?" Kendall asked.

"It's running," I whispered.

"It's running!" Dad yelled victoriously, "It's running!"

Kendall and I exchanged ecstatic grins, throwing our hands in the air.

"Go get you're moms!" Dad said, shooing us out of the car.

Kendall and I raced out of the car and into the house where mom, Wendy, and Quinn were sitting around the kitchen table chatting.

Shortly after Kendall and Wendy reunited, Kendall convinced Quinn to give their mom a second chance. Over the last year and a half, they had grown close again. Kendall still lived with Quinn, but they saw their mom often. Kendall even spent some nights at Wendy's apartment. Mom and Wendy met a few months after that and they became fast friends.

"Everything okay out there?" mom asked as we came flying around the corner.

"It's running!" we said in unison.

"Really?" Mom asked in disbelief.

"Come see!" I said, waving for her to follow.

We lead the three out to the garage where Dad was standing in front of the car, his chest puffed out in pride.
