Nine

[Seattle, Washington. Friday,
December 25, 2037.]

Well, suffice to say, Yuzuki is less than pleased. He bite the inside of his cheek as he watched the figure of Y/n L/n move away from his touch. He had thought she would be happy with him. After all, everything he has done was only done out of love. The young neko had imagined her running into his arms, telling him how relieved she was to have him there, and happy she felt... but she didn't.

She didn't fall into his embrace.

She didn't gaze up at him lovingly.

She didn't kiss him sweetly.

Instead, she looked afraid and stared at him as if she was some kind of monster. Gazing up at Yuzuki, there was only fear in her enchanting e/c eyes as she began to back slowly away from him.

Within the next instant, her cautious movements soon changed when she bolted down the street, leaving Yuzuki confused for a moment. 'She is just confused,' he rolled his eyes at his owner's unwilling and childish behaviour. 'She just doesn't understand.' And with that in mind, Yuzuki quickly follows, pursuing the h/c-haired girl.

While Y/n knew that she couldn't outrace the hybrid, there was a possibility that she could outsmart him. She proceeded to then mentally curse out the neko for the indisputable fact that she couldn't simply hide and wait until the perimeter was secure since Yuzuki would not only be able to smell her from a mile away but also track her. 'I should've just driven...' she let out a small groan while she clutched onto the fabric of her shirt right above her heart, her pace slowing down.

To say she is exhausted would be an understatement. Oh, what she would do to be back in her apartment and locked away from Yuzuki.

Running away from him wasn't the best choice. If only she could just navigate through the woods, she wouldn't be so lost. She derailed from using the main road and was now strolling through the forest in hopes to shake off Yuzuki. Y/n should have never met him, should have never offered him a place to stay, should have never spent her money on him. She wouldn't be his darling.

Not wanting to be on her feet, Y/n began climbing a tree and sat on one of his branches. She wasn't too far up but was surely out of reach. It didn't take long for her to watch the dark ominous figure that is Yuzuki stand below her with his hands on his hips, staring up at her as if he were a disappointed parent. His upset nature dissipated when a smile spread on his facial features, laughing, but when Y/n didn't share his joy — it concerned him beyond all recognition. "What's the matter? Why are you making a face like that?" He tilted his head to the side, mockingly frowning. "Did you think I wouldn't find you?"

"I want to leave, Yuzuki," Y/n said, quietly. "I'm tired of you. I want to be left alone."

"What's going on? Do I not satisfy you anymore?" One of his hands clenched into a fist. "I told you before, Yuzuki, I do not and never have loved you... all I wanted to do was to help you but you have taken advantage of my kindness." Y/n hugged the tree stump, moving her legs closer to her body to get further away from the neko.

A sense of dread settled itself in the depths of Y/n's abdomen as she worriedly looked down at Yuzuki who now hung his head low. His eyes were covered by his fringe, but by the manner his body moved, it was blatantly obvious that he was weeping. "I'm sorry that you're not happy, but I can't let you leave," he sighs, and Y/n gets the distinct impression that she's a nuisance, something to deal with, something he's having to deal with instead of doing far more important things. "You're showing a severe lack of appreciation for all the work I have done to take care of you. To make sure you are safe."

You don't know how to respond to that.

Instinctively, Y/n jumped off from the tree and almost immediately landed on her knees — leaving her in a state of temporary shock, feeling worried that she had possibly hurt her legs. With panic setting in, Y/n stood up and scurried away from Yuzuki who held a finger that signalled and beckoned her to come towards him.

Y/n tried to turn her body to begin running but was blocked by Yuzuki which caused her to stop, frozen, in her trackers. He stood there, frowning with a look of disappointment that soon turned into concern as his eyes trailed from Y/n's scared face to her now bleeding knee.

"Yuzu-" the h/c-haired girl managed to choke out. "Stop staring, please."

He didn't say anything, except, "Are you okay? You didn't hurt anything else, did you?" Yes, he was hurt by the fact that Y/n tried to leave once again, but he was more uneasy about her injury and well-being.

"I'm... managing."

"Come here," Yuzuki opened his arms, telling her to join him in a warm embrace. Y/n shook her head and this made the neko sigh and didn't waste a moment lifting her into a bridal style, holding her tightly as he ventured back towards the main road. "Now, you see why I don't let you leave? It's not safe out here for you. And yes — I knew what you were planning but you're not to do this again... understand?" Yuzuki looked down at Y/n, laying her down on the road to hold her face in his hands, gently caressing her hands. "I am going to take us back to your apartment, okay? Everything will be alright... just try not to run away this time."

Yuzuki, leaning down, planted a kiss on his owner's nose before picking her up once more but in a different position as before so Y/n would have the ability to wrap her arms and legs around him. "Let's head home, shall we?" He rhetorically asked, his demeanour shifting to be relaxed and more affectionate.

All the more, he simply enjoyed the sight of holding Y/n. Her body is warm and tender as it snuggled up against his. She fitted so perfectly into his form, every open space filled out with a limb of hers. The two were just perfect for each other.

As much as Y/n L/n tried to fight her weary and drowsy state, Yuzuki's natural warmth emitting from his chest almost instantly lulled the troubled girl to sleep.

before anyone comments on how yuzuki would be unable to hold them, please keep in mind that a neko's abilities come from physical strength and speed. so, yes, yuzuki would be able to carry you and that's final.

and, no, this is not the final chapter. the next chapter should be the last, if not then there should be at least a few more chapters before this book ends but please keep in mind that this book was always meant to be short, so i apologize to anyone who believed otherwise...
