The sun was coming into the room through the light-yellow curtains, making me wake up. The alarm on my nightstand hadn't rung yet, so I sighed and turned around, facing the mysterious man beside me.

«Good morning» he smiled, opening just one eye.
«Hi» I said, shyly. «Uhm... is there anything you'd like for breakfast?»
«No, I'm fine, I promised my niece we'd have breakfast together» he answered. «Are you okay? You seem different than last night and you only said one sentence.»
«I'm great» I exclaimed, getting up and covering myself with my hands as soon as I realized that I was naked. «Could you still turn around, please?»

He didn't complain at all and did as I asked, while I put on some clothes.

«So, we...» I muttered, leaving the rest of the sentence to his mind.
«Yeah, we did. But I meant everything I said last night.»
«That's the thing, I don't remember what you said to me last night cause I was a little bit... drunk.»
«Thought so. Can I turn around now?»

I said yes, so he looked at me and smiled again.

«Stop smiling.»
«Why?»
«Cause it's confusing.»
«You're so shy now. Not all the girl from last night.»
«Well, this is me. And if you don't like what you see, you can just leave. I don't know your name anyways, so no attachments or hard feelings, I promise.»

He got up from my bed, chuckling and shaking his head, and put on the clothes he had on the night before.

«Can I give you my number?» he asked, suddenly.
«What?»
«Could I give you my number?» he repeated, this time staring at me right in the eyes.
«Sure... wait a second.»

I looked around and saw a pink-flamingo pen that my psychiatrist had given me that week, then found an old receipt on my desk, which I gave to him to let him write down his number.

«There you go» he smiled, handing me back the piece of paper. «Now I really should go, or my niece is gonna be really mad at me. I'll see you again, hopefully.»

While walking to the front door he was scanning around my house, to pick up every little detail he could about my persona. Before opening the door he even got on the floor to caress my dog, Lucy, which seemed way too thoughtful and lovable of him.

«Don't forget your scarf» I said, picking it up from the couch, where he had put it the night before.
«Thank you.»

He smiled one more time, as I closed the door in front of me.

I went to the kitchen, with the untouched receipt still in my hand, and made myself a cup of tea. Then, I finally opened the piece of paper and unconsciously smiled at the sight of his name, written with a really beautiful handwriting.

Jack.

That morning, at the office, for some weird reason I couldn't stop myself from smiling, and Aidy seemed to have noticed.

«Did you sleep well?» she smirked, making a funny-sexy face.
«Shut up. I... slept.»
«So, what's his name?»
«Jack.»
«Was he good?»
«He was... nice» I blushed.

In that moment, our office door opened and Kate came in, sitting on our couch shortly after.

«Did you have fun with mustache man?» she asked immediately.
«Yes, alright? But it's really not that big of a deal, you know?»

She chuckled under her breath, but Aidy interrupted her enjoyment of the whole situation.

«She went home with a girl last night» she exclaimed, laughing.
«Really? Who?»
«I don't know, some chick who really wanted my cab.»
«So... what's your deal?»
«We talked about it and agreed that it was just a one-time thing» she explained, slightly nodding and trying to look wiser. «But what's your deal with mystery man?»
«He gave me his number, and I texted him.»
«Invite him to the Christmas party!» Aidy proposed.
«It's way too soon. We just met yesterday.»
«Yes, but it didn't take you long to smash booties with him» Kate laughed. «Anyways, I'm off, I have a sketch I'm trying to finish.»

Aidy and I said goodbye to Kate, who quickly left our office, and decided to go grab a coffee downstairs. As we were walking down the hallway, my phone started ringing, and as soon as I saw my cousin's name I froze.

«Are you okay?» Aidy immediately asked, seeing the anxiety on my face.
«Yes. Go without me, I'll be right back.»

I answered the phone and went to the bathrooms to hide.

«Owen, what is it? Are you okay? What's happening?» I nervously interrogated him, cold sweating in the bathroom stall.
«Dude, chill. I'm fine, just wanted to hear your voice.»
«Are you sure? Cause I can come down to your house if you need me, I don't mind.»
«I'm okay, but I can't wait to see you this Christmas, man.»
«Me, too.»

I was crying over him and his stupid brain cancer, as I knew that the following Christmas he might have not been able to celebrate with us.

«Cec, I can hear you crying» he said, with a protective voice.
«I'm just practicing for a sketch.»
«Liar. Anyways, I've got no idea on what to buy to nana, what are you thinking?»

I smiled. Even though he was aware of his limits and his illness, he was still living life the normal way, and begged me to do the same. He was my hero.

We talked for almost thirty minutes in the bathroom, until I heard a knock and I realized that it was time for the table read.

«I gotta go» I ended the conversation. «I'll talk to you soon. I miss you.»
«Bye, go do your job. If you can reserve seats for the dress rehearsals, I'll gladly be there.»
«Will reserve.»

I got out of the stall and saw Kate staring at me, with her fist still in the air.

«You alright?»

I nodded, still unable to speak, and she started massaging my back. She knew how brain cancer could be, and she had been trying to make it lighter for me.

«Let's go.»

We walked to the briefing room and saw that we were the last ones there.

«Sorry for making you wait» I smiled, taking my place next Kenan.
«We were just chatting. Now, let's start working» Lorne reassured me.

After the table read, which lasted about three hours, I was ready to leave and go home. I got to my office again and smiled at the sight of that receipt, that I had left on my desk, thinking about Jack.

«Did he text you back?» Aidy asked, as she had read my mind.
«Yes, but I'll wait it out a little. Don't wanna rush anything.»
«You literally went to third base with him after what, an hour?»
«Shut up» I chuckled.

I took my bag, my coat and left the studio, leaving on the desk that little piece of paper.
