Jack, Roger, Dani, and the other hunters stalked through the woods like a Tiger in search of an ox. They were excited, the adrenaline was pumping. Dani was glad she came. Then they all stopped walking and stood perfectly still, there she was in the middle of a clearing, an enormous pregnant pig. All hell broke loose as they chased the pig and killed it with their spears
NOTE - The descriptions of killing the pigs in Golding's novel are one of my least favorite parts of the book (as I do not like cruelty to animals) so I choose to only briefly mention it here.
Meanwhile, Ralph was on the beach with Piggy and an assortment of littluns doing maintenance to the shelters
''Ralph I tell you something'' Piggy said ''I tell you now, you are gonna have to punish Jack soon, he can't carry on getting away with his behavior. The more you let it slip the more he will think he can do as he pleases and he'll see you as weak ''
Ralph sighed and looked troubled ''Yeah Piggy I know but what punishment to give him? We haven't even discussed punishments''
''Well, my Auntie is a great believer in corporal punishment!'' Piggy declared with almost a sadistic and smug delight ''a damn good thrashing with a leather strap would do the trick!''
Ralph looked at the leather belt he was wearing and thought about it
''Yes I guess the belt could be a punishment for any boys who behave badly'' he said at last ''but we can't just have the belt as a punishment we need other punishments too''
Piggy was about to speak again when suddenly they became aware of a plane flying overhead. At that moment Ralph's desire to be rescued and taken home overcame him again and he started calling and waving his arms about frantically
''HEY YOU, WE'RE DOWN HERE!'' He called out ''WE NEED YOUR HELP!''
Ralph and the littluns began to get very excited and ran around waving and jumping to attract the attention of the people on the plane. Piggy shook his head in dismay while standing watching
''Ralph, this is no good at all'' he said with sorrow '' they aren't gonna notice us down here''
''Then we must go up the mountain and make sure we have enough smoke!'' Ralph cried and raced up the hill along with the littluns. Piggy followed behind, reluctantly
The hunters were standing looking at their catch, the pain and agony of its brutal death was etched all over its face.
''I really enjoyed pushing my spear up its ass!'' declared the sadistic Roger
Jack, still out of breath from the chase, turned to Dani ''Glad you came?'' he asked her
She broke out in a huge smile ''Yes Jack I am, I had a great time''
''You proved yourself worthy of membership in my tribe. I am proud to have a strong girl like you''
''I don't think Ralph will let me join'' Dani said sadly ''I can ask permission but if he says no then that's it''
''Ridiculous'' Jack scoffed ''You do not need his permission to join!''
''Come on boys let's get this fat bitch back to the camp ready to cook it!'' Roger cried and he and Maurice and a few of the others picked the pig up and began to carry it away. Jack stayed back with Dani and watched them go
''I want to let them go on ahead so that us two can talk alone for a minute'' he said
''Oh?'' Dani was intrigued
