Jack's hair had gotten very long and he wanted to cut it short. He and Dani were also aware that the other boys needed haircuts. Jack and Dani started being creative with the natural resources they had. They made scissors by working away at pieces of rock and stone to make them thin and sharp and then tying them together with twigs and plants. They were able to cut their hair short. But Jack decided he wanted all the boys to have totally shaved heads, apart from one small ''tail'' of longer hair at the back, so he made his own razors from sharp objects and found that the oil and juice inside some plants could act as a lubricant. Having their heads shaved could be painful when done in such a crude way and sometimes small cuts would be made on their heads but the boys had to obey, whether they wanted shaved heads or not
