The change in Piggy really was remarkable, everyone was commenting on it. Within only a few months of undergoing hard training, from Jack, he had transformed from unhealthy, fat, weak, and lazy to healthy, muscular, strong, and hard-working
Then he excelled even further by killing a pig on a hunt. Jack had been training Piggy to hunt, although it took him a while to learn, at first he hunted smaller animals like lizards and squirrels, and eventually, he tried to hunt a pig and was unsuccessful a few times. But Jack was surprisingly patient and encouraged Piggy to keep trying until, at last, he succeeded
''Well done Piggy!'' Roger said when Jack and Piggy brought Piggy's catch back to cook ''we all knew you could do it!''
''Yes I am very pleased'' Jack said proudly ''The change in you is amazing Piggy. To think when I first met you I couldn't stand you and now you are a great member of the tribe. You are the most improved boy here for sure''
''Thank you, Sir, I appreciate everything you have done to train me'' Piggy said happily
''I don't think we should call you Piggy anymore'' Jack said suddenly ''I mean it doesn't seem suitable anymore, you've changed too much now. I don't see you as Piggy anymore''
''I agree with Jack'' Roger said, rather predictably
''What is your real name anyway?'' Dani asked Piggy ''You have never told anyone what it is when Ralph and I first met you you told us your nickname is Piggy and after that, we all just called you Piggy. I don't think anyone ever even bothered to ask you what your real name is''
''No they didn't'' Piggy replied ''and I never told anyone. Well my real name is Jason''
''Your name starts with a J same as mine and you never even said so'' Jack said surprised ''I like the name Jason, it's a good masculine name same as mine''
''It's a cool name'' Roger agreed
''Well over the years even my Auntie called me Piggy'' Piggy said sadly
''Well from this day forward you are Piggy no more'' Jack declared ''From now on you're Jason''
Jason didn't know what to think about this, he was so used to being called Piggy it would feel very strange at first but he supposed he'd get used to it eventually
''I can't remember the last time someone called me Jason'' he said with tears in his eyes but he tried to wipe them away quickly in case Jack and the others lost respect for him so soon after he finally gained it ''It was probably my parents who last called me Jason many years ago''
''What happened to your parents Piggy?'' Roger asked and then looked sheepish ''erm fuck man sorry I mean Jason...sorry I'm so used to calling you Piggy it's a habit that will be hard to break but I'll try harder to remember your name is Jason I swear''
''They died in a car crash when I was 6 years old'' Piggy said ''That's when I went to live with Auntie and that's when I got fat and everyone stopped calling me Jason, from then on I was always Piggy and it was my Auntie who first gave me that name. Auntie was always such a strange woman, one minute she was putting cakes and biscuits in front of me and spoiling me, and the next she was beating me and calling me a fat pig, I never knew from one day to the next how she would treat me but I know it was she who turned me into Piggy''
The others were stunned and silent. For Jack and Roger talk of childhood abuse brought back memories of abuse they themselves suffered
