Part 31 - FIRE

''I don't vote for either of you'' Eric said with a grin ''I nominate myself''

''Get real, like anyone gonna want you as the leader after you were going around killing us'' Jason said with disdain

''Well I think there should be a vote at least'' Eric insisted

''It's a waste of time'' Jason told him firmly ''The vote is between Maurice and me, no one else, and least of all you. No one wants you in charge, you'd be killing us all the first chance you got''

''Well let's have a vote anyway'' Eric demanded ''it's only fair, does anyone want me as the leader? I know you don't know me very well yet but I am a fun guy. I promise as the leader I will make sure we have more fun here, we should always have fun and have a laugh''

Even Maurice was suspicious now ''What sort of fun?'' he asked while giving Eric a distrusting look  

No one had been paying attention to what Eric had been doing with his hands, he had very carefully been loosening the binds and he freed himself and snatched Jason's glasses from his face

''This sort of fun!'' he said with a wicked laugh

''GIVE ME BACK MY GLASSES THIS SECOND!'' Jason demanded ''I CAN'T SEE WITHOUT THEM!''

''MAKE ME!'' Eric yelled and ran off laughing

''CHASE HIM AND RETURN MY GLASSES TO ME, BOYS!'' Jason cried and suddenly he sounded like Piggy again, whiny and weak. Jason was no longer fat, and no longer resembled Piggy physically but the characteristics were still there under the surface

''I can't see without my glasses'' Jason said while weeping and reminding everyone of Piggy

''Omg'' Maurice said sounding genuinely surprised ''You have made so much progress but now you are acting and sounding just like Piggy again''

Jason nodded his head in sad acceptance ''Yes if I can't see I may as well be Piggy again, I mean weak somehow. I can lose weight, and build muscle, but without my glasses, I'm blind and useless. Maybe I'll just start stuffing food down my throat again, get fat again, and then I'll be Piggy again not Jason'' 

''In that case, the only person who can be the leader is Maurice'' Ryan said ''You won't be a strong leader now, you've shown your weakness''

''You guys really should run and try and catch Eric'' Jason said trying to be strong again but his voice was shaky and tearful ''Even if you don't care about my glasses you should care about catching him before he goes on another killing spree''

The boys took this on board and started to search the island for Eric. But they soon discovered that killing more boys was not what Eric had in mind. Multiple fires were found around the island. Eric was using Jason's glasses to start the fires. The boys began to feel scared as the fires began to spread, smoke was rising up all over the place and it was hard to see. The boys all began to run towards the beach and away from the trees

Jason was alone and scared. He could not see but he could smell the smoke and he knew there was an inferno now. But he didn't know where he was going

Jason tried to walk, but he stumbled around with no idea where he was. Then Jason ran into someone

''Who is there?'' he asked and he heard the laughter and recognized that it was Eric

''Did you start the fires?'' he asked

''Yes, of course, your glasses came in handy!''

''Why did you do it?''

''Why not? It's fun''

''Now everything here will be destroyed. The pigs, the trees, the fruit. What will we eat, how will we survive here now?''

''Who knows who cares?'' Eric said with a shrug  

''Can I have my glasses back please?''

''Maybe if you can catch me'' Eric said and started to dance around Jason ''Come on catch me!''

''YOU KNOW I CAN'T SEE YOU ASSHOLE''

''HERE PIGGY PIGGY!''

Jason got on his knees in tears

''Please Eric, Sir, just give them back'' he begged while weeping

Eric knelt beside him and got up close to his face to taunt him

''I hate people who beg!'' he said and smashed the glasses against a rock

Jason bowed his head and grimaced ''That's it then'' he said ''Now I'm blind and it's over''

''It's over for all of us haven't you noticed that yet?'' Eric told him calmly ''I saw to that and you yourself pointed it out. None of us will survive now, we'll all starve and die''

''And that makes you happy does it?''

''Well it gives me a thrill if that counts as being happy and now, Piggy, it's time to punish you''

Eric dragged Jason up from his knees and dragged him to the punishment pit and flung him down it, he screamed as he fell and then screamed again in agony as he broke his leg upon landing

The other boys had arrived on the beach and were stunned to find an adult male, dressed in Military uniform, standing on the beach. There was a boat with some other soldiers in it

Finally seeing an adult after all this time wasn't the biggest surprise. The biggest surprise was that the boys all recognized the man. He was the pilot of the plane they had crashed in

''You?'' Maurice said stunned ''But you died in the crash didn't you?''

The pilot just laughed at them

''Boys it's time to tell you the truth'' he said ''You see the whole thing was planned from the start''
