JACK THE KING (Lord of the Flies reimagined)

Part 26 - AN ANNOUNCEMENT

Roger seemed to slip into a depression over Henry's death. It was so convincing everyone thought he can't have killed Henry unless he was a really really good actor

For days Roger just sat around depressed and didn't want to do anything. Didn't want to hunt. Meanwhile, Jason had taken over Roger's duties as second in command and Jack was very pleased with him so he called a meeting to make an announcement

''As of now I am promoting Jason to second in command'' he said proudly

''Thank you Sir'' Jason said feeling very proud

''Hey, what about me?'' Roger demanded angrily ''I am second in command!''

''Well not anymore'' Jack told him ''I am not impressed with you anymore and Jason is impressing me a lot so he gets rewarded and you get punished''

''Don't you have a heart?'' Roger demanded furiously ''I am grieving the loss of my special friend, Henry, do you expect me to be on top form just now?''

Dani decided to get involved ''I wanted Jack to replace you with Jason'' she told him ''I've never really liked you that much and Jason on the other hand I do like''

''I HATE YOU ALL!'' Roger screamed and ran off

Jason got to work as the second in command and was enjoying himself immensely

''Boys today we will do maintenance to the shelters!'' he told them and put them into groups. Each group was assigned a chore to do and Jason would supervise them and give orders. He would punish any boy who didn't do this fair share of the work! He had the leather strap in his hand ready to use it! He sure had come a long way from the days of being Piggy with asthma who never stopped mentioning his aunty   

Roger walked on his own, on the opposite side of the island, for hours. He was thinking about Jack and Henry. He wasn't really that upset about Henry's death he was more upset about Jack betraying him. He headed back to the camp to speak to Jack  

''Sir I am sorry for my outburst earlier'' he said humbly ''I don't know what came over me Sir and I am happy for Jason to have the promotion I really am''

''I understand it must have been a disappointment for you'' Jack replied ''I accept your apology and we'll move on from this''

''Can we go for a walk on our own just the two of us please Sir?'' Roger asked him ''I would love to talk in private like we used to. Its been so long since we last had one of our long chats alone''

''Must we do this right now?'' Jack wasn't feeling in the mood

''Well no we don't have to Sir but I'd really like to. Just for an hour or so, we could go for a swim, Sir ''

''Yes ok I suppose so''

Jack set off with Roger and they walked to the other side of the island, where they were by themselves

''I need to tell you something'' Roger said at last when they were sitting alone by the water

''Go on?''

''I am in love with you and I think you feel the same about me too!''

Jack shook his head and looked surprised ''No I am not into boys sorry I love Dani''

''Look I know you like Dani but you like boys too I've seen the way you look at the boys sometimes you're bisexual. There's no shame in admitting it you know, especially to me, I don't mind at all''

''Look, Roger...''

Roger cut him off ''Shuush don't say a word!'' he said and kissed Jack on the lips. They kissed for several seconds, but Jack didn't fight him off. Then Roger started to get more passionate and Jack pulled away

''No stop it!'' he demanded ''I am not gay!''

Roger took hold of Jack's hand and pushed it down on his shorts ''You feel that?'' he asked him ''feels like a boner to me. You were enjoying it and you know it''

''Well even if I was I can't act on it''

''Why not?''

''Because it wouldn't be right. I prefer to be with a girl, to be with Dani''  

''At least make me second in command again then. you can't promote Jason over me and you know it, I am too special to you. We've always had a special bond Jack you know that''

Jack shook his head ''Roger sometimes things move on, even here. I've really been very impressed with Jason and I think he deserves a chance to be second in command. I'm sorry if you feel let down but my decision is made''

''How disappointing'' Roger said with a sigh

''I think its time we went back now'' Jack was getting fed up now

''Of course, I could tell Dani you're into boys and that we kissed'' Roger said with a wicked smile ''Maybe she would finish it with you then?''

''Roger you're skating on thin ice now, you want to be punished do you?''

''I'm not scared of the strap or the punishment pit'' Roger said with a sneer ''You want to punish me then bring it on I don't care''

Then Jack lost his temper and grabbed Roger by the throat ''I'm not talking about the strap or the punishment pit'' he snarled ''You've overstepped the mark today. Unless you stop this now then the punishment I have in mind is the fucking death penalty''

''Funny that, that's the punishment I had in mind too'' Roger said and then grabbed Jack by the head and pushed him under the water to drown him. As Jack thrashed around Roger proved how strong he was by keeping him under

''I'll let you into a little secret since I'm going to kill you anyway'' Roger whispered with a smile ''I've killed before. The people I loved, when they let me down, betrayed me, abandoned me, I always killed them. I was hoping I wouldn't have to kill you too but you let me down. It's your own fault, Jack'' 

Then Jack broke free and punched Roger in the face. As Roger tried to attack him again they began to fight and Jack found his strength and overpowered Roger

''And you tried to push Maurice off the cliff and attacked Dani and killed Henry right?'' He panted, out of breath but finding his strength again

Roger shook his head ''No I didn't do those things''

''I don't believe you and nor will the others when I tell them''

Jack dragged Roger to his feet and began to march back to camp with him

''I'll tell the others everything and we'll decide what to do with you''

''Everything? you'll tell them everything?''

''Yes''

''Does that include how you like boys and we kissed and you enjoyed it?''

''Just shut up and move!'' Jack said and dragged Roger to camp
