The courtroom was totally silent. After six years I finally got to see Dahyeon's parents. The two people who did everything to prevent us from ending up together. Now that we're here they're probably the only two people who wanted to stand in front of me the most and say 'I told you so'.

The court verdict deemed Dahyeon guilty of murder of at least four people and I just sat there looking at the woman I call my wife. Rather, I used to call my wife.

Surprisingly it didn't take much convincing for her to sign the divorce papers. It was quite easy.

What was she thinking? And more importantly, why do I care?

She looks at me once. Her eyes said something to me that I didn't want to read. Following her gaze her parents also looks at me. Did they expect me to do something about it?

After everything was over I got a call from Sooyeon that she brought Suyeong back from school. And I went out of the court building to find Suyeong standing with her signature smile she always has. Never lose that smile please, Suyeong-ah.

"Appaaaa!" She found me and came running to me.

From now on I'll live for you Suyeong-ah. I catch her and pick her up only to hear a fake coughing to catch my attention. Looking around I found two people I never thought I would see this close again. Well maybe I didn't want to meet them either.

"Her name is Suyeong, right?"

The woman still fashionable and sophisticated as I've last seen her looks at Suyeong with judgement in her eyes.

My daughter just looks at her without knowing what to do. I knew she didn't like the way they looked at her. And to be honest I didn't either. If I could I would have told them off. But I'm nothing in front of them. They can crush me with two fingers and I won't be able to do anything about it. So all I can do is endure and stay strong for Suyeong.

"How old is she, again?"

"Five years ten months." I answer to them. Slowly the judgement in my ex-mother-in-law's eyes somewhat changed to something like indifference. Rich people, I swear. They don't even acknowledge their own kin.

"Can I hold her?" It was Dahyeon's father. Mr. Lim Seongcheol.

I look at Suyeong. She was curious as to why this old man wants to hold her. I quench her curiosity. "Grandpa."

And she gives a smile to them. The exact replica of a smile that Dahyeon has.

The grandparents met their grandkid for the first time and the meeting was really short. They didn't want to lengthen it. And I didn't want Suyeong to be with them much longer either.

So it went as short as it could get. And they let her go.

I let Sooyeon take her back home while I meet my mentor who's also a lawyer in the Ilsan district court. I wanted to talk about how I'm gonna go from here after I graduate. I wanna work in a good law firm. I knocked on the door of the middle-aged man and heard a muffled sound.

"Come in."

After I entered I was stunned. The face of the two people I least wanted to see looked at me curiously.

Min Kyosunim introduced me to them. "This is my student. Kim Gaon. And Gaon-ah, this is Congressman Lim Seongcheol and Director Park Dasom."

Due to their own actions, nobody knows they're actually Dahyeon's parents. And the irony? Now my professor is introducing me to my own parents-in-law. I bow politely to them with a fake smile trying for it to look as much real as possible.

They excused themselves and left while I was left to decide what to do next. And after getting out of the room I had a general idea how I can escape from this place and secure Suyeong's future.

I was lost in thoughts while walking out of the building premises when a coffee colored Maserati screeched stop in front of me. The passenger side window opened to reveal a very sophisticated and beautiful lady who resembles a lot like my Dahyeon.

"Get in the car."

The lady said. And who am I to disobey?

The car sped past a bunch of streets and stopped in an underpass.

"Now that you divorced Dahyeon-ah what do you plan on doing?"

Her face was as indifferent as it could get but I could hear the genuinety in her voice.

"Have you thought of a job after you graduate?"

I nod. "I would like to continue in the Baram law firm. Where I did my internship."

"Leave from here. Leave Ilsan."

I looked at her face to find something. Anything. But it wasn't there.

"Why?"

"Just do what I say. I'll help you find a job at the Supreme court in Seoul. I'll help you find accomodation. I'll help you with Suyeong's education. But just leave Ilsan."

I'm a wannabe lawyer. I also know some things by just hints. And this woman right here won't help me for just anything.

"Now that Dahyeon's news is public people would dig into her background. And the lose link is us. If they find us it's not certain that we would conceal your identity. Suyeong might not know you but I do and naturally I have a grudge against you. It's easier for me to find myself a five minutes fame by revealing you to the media. Right?"

The older woman on the driver's seat slowly started to show some expression and it's anger.

"Kim Gaon."

"So you want to seal my mouth. And you know if it's Suyeong I'll do anything. Don't think that I don't know how you've always kept tab on us." I try to control my breath as I'm starting to get mad. How dare she think she can buy me with Suyeong's future? "You've abandoned Dahyeon when she needed you the most. You've ghosted us, Suyeong, your own grandchild just to not lose face. I don't care how you can destroy me I don't agree."

"So you won't leave Ilsan?" She finally looks at me. Her expression surprisingly calm. Which is even more dangerous than her showing anger.

"I will. But on my own accord." I pull out a photo of Dahyeon and Suyeong together on the swing from my wallet and hand it over to my ex mother-in-law. "Keep this. This is the last time you'd get to see us. And I hope in future I won't have to entangle with you again. I divorced Dahyeon. So technically I don't have any connection with you. And about Suyeong? I'm her father. I can take care of my daughter. And I will. Until the end."

After getting off the car, the car left me standing in the middle of the underpass shaking. I was scared. Yes. They can do anything to me. But I can't let them control Suyeong. Never.
