After informing the officer that I'll take a day and contact him again if I really press charges, I carried Suyeong back to the car. Kang Yohan followed me silently. He didn't say anything after his question about if I'd let him protect us.

When we reached the car Yohan deliberately stopped a little away as he looked at me get Suyeong settled at the backseat, without moving.

I didn't know what to say to him either. But he did protect my daughter. He deserves the gratitude. So I turn around instead of entering the car.

"I'll take you to the emergency department."

He looked at me without answering. Then as if on impulse I opened the passanger door for him. Though he didn't make a move to get in.

I was trying to smooth out the awkwardness that grew between us.

But Kang Yohan still didn't get in. Instead he turned around. Then without looking at me said something to shock me to the core.

"I don't know if I'm confusing you, but your face said as if I am. I'll give you space. I'm sorry."

He started walking away from me. And I didn't know why my heart started feeling all sorts of weird emotions. I started feeling like I shouldn't let him go. Like, if he leaves today, I'll lose something.

My feet walked automatically towards the receding back of the man. My right hand held his with an unknown vigor that I myself didn't know.

"Kang Yohan ssi."

He stopped but didn't look back.

"Please let me help you!"

"Why Gaon ssi?"

When he finally looked back his face didn't show even the slightest bit of affection that was there even a few minutes ago. His face was indifferent. It scared me. Scared me that I really offended him. But didn't know how to undo it. What is happening to me.

Kang Yohan's face didn't change. He kept looking at me, as if looking for the answer he wanted.

I lowered my head trying to hide from his piercing gaze that was unwrapping me as he pleases.

"You didn't confuse me. I'm just scared!"

I finally gave in to his silence. The silence held the deepest concern he wanted to unravel. And me, who's just a young assistant lawyer, didn't stand a chance in front of him. Neither in willpower, nor in strength.

His gaze was steady on me and I could feel it without even looking up.

"Please let me help you. Your forehead is bleeding."

Even though the blood on there has already clotted I couldn't disregard the fact that he bled while protecting my daughter. I didn't see his face until he slowly hummed. It was inaudible if I didn't stand as close to him as I was right now.

And then as if to clarify his answer he said again. "Let's go."

He didn't make a move thought. What should I do?

Then I realised I was still holding his hand. I let go of it instantly. My face flustered from the unnecessary action. Shouldn't have done that!

He smiles slightly. And held my hand back. Then as if reminding me of high school puppy love he pulled me towards the car and pushed me right into the car through the same passanger side door I myself opened for him. Then drove straight to my home.

And suddenly my heart started giving me a premonition that something good is happening. For the first time after nearly three years I was hopeful again. Dahyeon has betrayed me, but maybe this time I can begin again.
