"Hello!" My voice resonated through the receiver of the phone. I didn't even look up from the pile of documents that was on the desk in front of me.
"Gaon ah. When are you getting back home?"
Yohan's voice came through.
I wasn't sure what he meant. I was busy preparing for a new case. And this was a pivotal case for both me and Jipuragi. Maybe that's one of the reason I didn't understand the very simple question Yohan asked.
"What?"
"When are you coming back home?"
I looked at the table clock sitting idly by the computer and mentioned a time.
"Around six. Why?"
Thats when I remembered I have left Suyeong to Yohan and Elijah's care today. Did something happen?
"Did something happen? Where's Suyeong?"
My worried voice worried Yohan and he instantly comforted me.
"It's not Suyeong. Me and Elijah plan to spend the night here at your house. I was asking if that's okay."
I was taken aback to say the least. No matter how long we've spent as couples Yohan never asked to spend the night at my place. I also never asked him to do the same. One of the reasons being my place is very small for us two father-daughter. Let alone Yohan. And also the type of lifestyle Yohan is used to I don't think he'd be able to adjust at such a small place either. But today him asking by himself made me a little curious and self-conscious at the same time.
"Okay. It's okay. You can stay."
Then with a very small voice added, "But I don't know if Elijah or you would be able to adjust. It's a small space."
His chuckle sounded right by my ears making the hairs on my hands rise up. And then a notification tone came from my phone prompting me to take a look at it.
"Just take a look and you'd know if we can adjust or not."
I opened the message and was instantly surprised. It showed Elijah and Suyeong lying side by side on the living room carpet. A bunch of Suyeong's colour pencils were scattered and both of them were sleeping soundly hugging each other with a blanket covering them.
"What do you think?"
Yohan's voice was still there. And the surprised look on my face didn't seem to go away.
"I'll be back soon. Stay home."
I said with a little determination. I didn't want only Yohan to enjoy the beautiful view. I want to be the one to enjoy it too.
"Okay. Don't miss me too much!"
He said playfully before hanging up. And somehow that one picture gave me enough energy to finish my work at the speed of light.
Evn though I said I'll be back home at six I got back exactly at five thirty.
When Yohan opened the door, he was in a comfy grey sweater and a pair of grey pants giving me the illusion of a family waiting to welcome me at home.
When I entered the living room however, I found Elijah and Suyeong sitting side by side, both concentrating on their own homework. I put my bag at the side table and went to the kitchet to wash my hands. Yohan was busy chopping vegetables.
Such a harmonious picture made me really want to pray for this to last long.
"You're staying here. What about Madam Ji Yeongok?"
I asked. The woman took care of Yohan and Elijah at the mansion. Now that both of them are here, she must be feeling lonely.
"She went back to her hometown to sort out some family issues."
