"Suyeong ah. We'll be late. Hurry up."
I shouted towards the room where my lady, my daughter was getting dressed for school.
Lately she's learnt to get ready for school all by herself and I let her do it. But definitely we can't take too much time. When my little girl came out of the room all ready we both stuffed two sandwiches into our faces and rushed out. She with my bag and me hers. Because well, we both were forgetting our own.
Our life in Seoul has been very smooth lately. Especially after I got together with Yohan I realised I fear things less. And Suyeong is really happy to be around him. And as a father, can I ask anything more? Probably not.
We got in my car and sped towards the elementary school. And after dropping her off, I rushed to the law firm.
To be honest I didn't need to rush. There's no case for us for the time being. The owner of the law firm was fighting a case herself and there were no other case. Not a single one.
Though that's a bit alarming for us employees, both Miss Hong and her Italian boyfriend who often shows his face assured us that we need not worry. After all we were getting our salaries on time. Also a law firm as Jipuragi which started up as an one person endeavour and ended up turning as big as it is now, has its own way to survive and thrive.
I heard from Mr. Song that the case was actually related to Jipuragi itself.
When I went to my desk there was an envelope sitting right on top of a stack of documents.
I opened it and it has a good news.
On Friday is the final hearing of the Jipuragi case. Let's party after that.
And nothing else. Typical Miss Hong. She's quite an interesting person.
I shake my head unmindfully as I focus on the stack of documents. Taking notes from the case files and setting up a procedure for the existing cases takes a lot of time from my day. And today isn't any exception. I drowned myself in my usual work until it was time for Suyeong's school finish time.
"Mr. Song. I'll be back."
I excused myself to my desk mate Mr. Song as I arranged my bag looking for my car key under the scattered documents.
"Going to the school for Suyeong?"
"Yes." I nod at his question.
Everyone in the law firm adores Suyeong very much from the very beginning. And I'm thankful for that. Which gave me enough courage to bring Suyeong to the office without worrying.
A month back, Miss Hong even arranged a desk at the side of me and Mr. Song's desk area, so that Suyeong can sit and do her homework there. I don't know what I would have done without the help of everyone.
Life in Seoul wasn't easy. Being a single father and coming from Ilsan to a completely unknown place, I feared that I wouldn't be able to settle down for a very long time. But everyone's help made it a lot less hard. Even calling it easy isn't a luxury anymore.
My colleagues are such friendly and warm people that I didn't ever have a time that I felt I'm away from home. Well away from home wouldn't be the right word, because Ilsan wasn't really home for me. That place contained a huge part of my painful past. I lost my parents there. I lost Dahyeon there. I lost a lot in Ilsan. On the other hand Seoul gave me a lot. Seoul gave me a new beginning. This city gave me a warm welcome, friends and Yohan. I brought the most beautiful memory of Ilsan to Seoul and started a happier life that wasn't possible in Ilsan.
It's true that Seoul has those reporters that's going after Suyeong any chance they get.
But I pressed charges and Yohan helps me. Maybe one day I can leave that part behind too and be able to protect Suyeong from the past that keeps running after us.
