April 8th, Tuesday, 1986.
1:53 PM.

Steve spent all day finding the pale vampire, wasting his time at dawn where the sky was painted intense pastel colors til afternoon, the sky being a solid blue with scattered thin clouds across the sky.

He had to admit, he was tired, & hot. Really hot. Steve was sweating, practically panting as he searched for Eddie. Dustin walked at his side, the two exhausted & dehydrated.

Steve panted, sweat trickling down his neck. "Do you think we should-" He paused, stopping in his tracks for a second. "We should take a break?" He continued.

Dustin nodded, eager to sit down somewhere in the shade or get a cool lemonade at a nearby stand. He was craving the feeling of the cold, sour liquid to caress his tongue & chug it. God, the poor guy was so thirsty.

The two of them found a spot near the rebuilt Starcourt Mall, sitting in the shade by the dumpsters. It definitely smelled gross, but so did they. It didn't matter right now, though.

After a little, Dustin stood up & stretched, looking down at a still exhausted Steve. "Hey, I'm gonna go home, okay?" Dustin said. Steve only slowly nodded.

"You can keep looking for him if you want," Dustin said, before walking off into the distance. Meanwhile, Steve was sitting down on the concrete as guilt tugged at his heart. His shoulders & chest felt heavy. He was so stressed.

Would Eddie even forgive him for the awful things he said? No, probably not. Steve sat there, horrible thoughts flooding through his mind.

A sudden rustle interrupted his thoughts, immediately whipping his head to look towards the dumpster where the sound came from.

Something was chewing on whatever it had. It seemed so..hungry. Steve stood up & slowly, carefully walked around the dumpster to look at what it was.

Then he saw him.

Of course he had to be here out of all places. Steve gulped, guilt rushing through his body, his veins, running through his blood.

There was a lump in his throat, feeling as if he couldn't speak a word to the pale creature that was feasting on a little animal. Most likely a rat.

"I- Eddie..?" Steve quietly said, the creature turning it's head to look at him. It's hair was messy & long just like always, his lips painted with red. With blood.

It only scowled at Steve & spoke, "What do you want?" Steve's heart ached at the way he spoke to him. This was how Eddie felt yesterday, wasn't it?

Steve shoved his hands into the pockets of his rough jeans, clearing his throat a little as he looked away, glancing at the vampire every now & then as he spoke with much guilt.

Eddie only watched him, his eyes scanning Steve, paying close attention to every movement he made. "I'm- I'm sorry. But, I know that an apology most definitely won't cut it. I still just want to apologize to you."

The vampire stayed silent. Steve's heart was pounding & he could hear it in his ears. Everything was turning to shit again. Again.

Why was it always again? That word. That word just did something to him. Because so many shitty things would happen over & over again.

Again, again, again, again, again, again, aga-

"Oh, you're sorry?" He finally spoke.

He sounded pissed. Steve pursed his lips & nodded, his voice barely above a whisper, "Yes, yes, I'm sorry." Eddie stood up & wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.
