The next week went by extremely slowly for Steve. He met up with Robin once and spent two afternoons with Dustin. Finally, Monday morning arrived. He woke up and arrived at Robin's house a little earlier than usual. "Buckley, get out here!" Steve shouted at the downstairs window. Robin trudged out heaving her schoolbag over her shoulder. "Why are you here so early? Are you that obsessive with Nancy now, Steve? You're going to go even more insane than Vecna slash Henry slash One." He rolled his eyes. "Shut up. You were the same with Tammy Thompson when you had a crush on her. You actually thought she was a good singer." Robin rolled her eyes, mimicking her best friend. "Okay, but I'm a high school girl, dingus. Everyone says our crushes are like insane. Not like a high-school boy's graduate three-year obsessive crush." Steve shook his head. "She's my friend, Robin. I want to make sure she's okay." She gave him an I-know-better look. "Yeah, right. And I'm best friends with Tom Cruise. Both are the biggest lies either of us have ever told. 'Just friends' don't just admit their romantic feelings for each other and run away together." He glanced away. "You have it all wrong. We ran away. Then she told me how she felt. Then she ran away again." Robin gave her best friend a crooked smirk. "And you still have the strongest obsession with her the world's ever seen. You two are the most confusing and adorable couple I have ever seen. But that's good because I've seen a lot of couples that didn't end well. Like Nancy and Jonathan. I mean that was his fault anyway, but that's not my point. You and Nance are different," she commented. "It's true love like a song Madonna or Billy Joel would sing about." Steve blushed intensely. "Don't say any of that to Nancy, Robin. She might actually punch you like I want to right now." His best friend chuckled. "Whatever you say, Steve. Whatever you say. Stancy is my life." He raised his eyebrows, facing Robin as she bounced into the seat next to him. "Stancy?" Robin gave a huge grin. "Stancy. Steve and Nancy. Forever and always, dingus. It's your ship name." Having enough of her comments,  he turned up the radio louder, putting the car in drive. Friends and Lovers by Carl Anderson came onto the radio.

🎶Well, I know in our hearts we agree, We don't have to be one or the other, Yes, it's a chance that we're taking, And somebody's heart may be breaking, But we can't stop what's inside of us, Our love for each other will guide us, 'Cause I'll be your friend, And I'll be your lover, Well, I know in our hearts we agree🎶

Robin began laughing as hard as she could. "See, Steve!" She shouted. "You and Nancy are fate! Even the radio agrees!" Steve leaned his head back in his seat, wanting to escape reality. He let everything Robin was saying fade away and just listened to the music. Finally, the two best friends arrived at Hawkins High. Steve's heart dropped to his stomach as soon as he spotted Nancy. He slammed on the brakes. Robin shouted and hopped out of the car, running as far away from the manic driver as she could.

Nancy and Max had just gotten out of Nancy's car. Max waited for her friend so they could walk in together. A lot had happened since the last time they were at the school, and they were both insanely anxious to be back. Max nudged her in the arm when she spotted Steve, who was glaze-eyed daydreaming and staring at Nancy. Nancy made direct eye contact with the brainless boy and waited for him to park. Max made small talk with her friend while waiting for the boy to greet her. Lucas came up to Max and started to walk with her after seeing Steve walk up to Nancy.

While walking over to Nancy, a car dodged Steve after almost hitting him because he was only paying attention to the pretty girl. "Harrington, watch where you're going!" Someone shouted at him. He paid no attention to them. Once he met up with Nancy, she gave him an excited but nervous smile. "Hey, I'm glad you made it." She teased him. "Yeah, me too," he said, not taking his eyes off of her. He took her arm as they walked into the school together. There was an assembly for the first day back. Steve was only going to spend time with Nancy but was going to have to go to work right after.
