When Jonathan heard about Nancy running away with Steve, he couldn't even think. Red anger flowed through his veins.
Two days after Nancy moved in with Steve, she had to pick up some things from Bradley's Big Guy. Jonathan spotted her car at the store and went to go confront the girl. All he wanted to do was get Nancy back. He wasn't going to let Steve have her.
As Nancy was walking through the store, she heard loud footsteps behind her. Before she could turn around, she was forcefully turned around by a strong arm. Jonathan. "Nancy, we have to talk." She shook her head, angrily backstepping from the boy. "No! Go away, Jonathan! I never want to see your stupid face ever again!" He frowned, unamused. "I know! I know! That's what we have to talk about. You're not going to marry Steve! Your parents won't allow it, Nancy. I'm the only possible guy for you to marry! Don't you see the vision, Nancy?! It was meant to be! We are!" Nancy made an angry face and shouted in a low voice. "No, Jonathan! Don't you see it? I don't really give a shit about what my parents believe about me and Steve! I don't! That's what real love is! Not some fake-ass relationship where you pretend to be happy for months while pushing down your long-lasting feelings for someone else! Now go away!" Jonathan clenched his fists and breathed out a sad sigh. "Look, Nancy, I know how bad of a boyfriend I was when I was in California. And you're right, you deserve better than that. But I've changed now. I'm here now, Nancy. I'm here." He took a small step toward the girl, touching her forearm. "Can't you just give me another chance? Can't we just start over?" Nancy wrinkled her nose, stepping away uncomfortably. "We're over, Jonathan. There's nothing you can do to change that. I'm with Steve now, and this is how it's supposed to be. This is goodbye."
He shook his head. "No, it's not. It can't be. You thought the exact same thing with Steve before... and look where it led you. We're not over, Nancy. We're not." She rolled her eyes, annoyed that he'd even dared to bring up what had happened two years before. "I was drunk and had so many other ridiculous things going on in my life then. Including you trying to push me to break up with him. And that was a mutual thing. Time and space. You're just obsessive over what used to be a relationship. It's not the same. And I'm not letting history repeat itself twice." Jonathan shook his head, speechless. "Mutual? You told him you didn't even love him. Really, Nancy. Your relationship with Steve will always lead to shit." He scoffed. Nancy shook her head angrily and whacked the boy across the face. "I'm not sorry for breaking up with you, Jonathan! I never will be! And stay out of my business! Move on with your life. And don't come looking for me again. Goodbye, Jonathan. I hope you find someone who will reciprocate your feelings someday." She kept her head held high as she strutted away from her ex-boyfriend, finally at peace.
. . . . . . . .
When Nancy got back home to Steve's house, she was shocked to find flowers and a sweet note awaiting her.

Nancy
[INSIDE OF NOTE]
I'm so happy that you're here with me. Over the past two years, you've been the only girl on my mind. You changed me for the better, Nance. I owe everything to you. I can't wait to see your beautiful face every morning. And cook for you all the time ;) When my parents move out of Hawkins, maybe we'll even get our own place.
I hope you like the flowers! Mike told me that petunias are your favorite. You're my dream and I want to make all of yours come true.
Forever yours,
Love always,
Steve❣️
[NOTE ENDS]
Nancy smiled at the little note Steve had left her. He was at work when she got home, but it was okay. Nancy was at home at the Harrington's. Even though she'd only been there two days, it felt more like home than the place in which she'd grown up.
When Steve got home later in the afternoon, a little before 4:00, his girlfriend met him with a bright smile. "How was work?" Nancy asked him. He shrugged with a silly grin. "Normal. Everything's normal, good, it's nice for a change." She laughed heartily. "Yeah, it is!" As Steve walked in the door, he smiled, viewing a little canvas in the parlor. "You're painting again?" Nancy smiled, looking up at her boyfriend. "Yeah. Honestly, if I wasn't a writer, I'd probably be a painter." It made Steve happy that his girlfriend was happy. "I could see it, Nance. I could." When he turned back to her, he saw that she looked hesitantly tense.
"What's wrong?" She shrugged, rolling her eyes, as she told her boyfriend what had happened earlier in the day. "When I was at the store earlier, Jonathan came and bothered me." Steve's brows creased, his facial expression becoming much more serious. "What did he say?" Nancy rolled her eyes once more. "Just his stupid, normal excuses. Although, he did apologize- but then he started talking bullshit again." Steve sat in momentary silence, allowing his thoughts to run around in circles in his mind.
He's trying to guilt her into getting back together with him.
No- maybe he's trying to be a good dude.
Maybe he just hasn't had a-
His thoughts were interrupted by Nancy taking both of his hands into hers. She leaned closer to her boyfriend and kissed where worried creases had formed on his face. "It's okay now, Steve. It's just you and me. Us. Jonathan can't hurt us anymore than he already has. We've just been giving him too much power. But now he's out of our lives. For good. Like Melissa." A little laugh slipped out of Steve's mouth. "Aww, come on, Nance, don't bring that girl up again!" He said in a soft, warm, whispering voice. Nancy's eyes lit up like the sky on a cloudless day. She leaned into him, now closer to his face than ever, deciding to change the subject. "I got the flowers and the note. You really are a hopeless romantic, Steve Harrington."
Steve leaned closer, acting as if he was about to kiss the girl, but spontaneously took her hand and spun her around instead. "Steve!" Nancy giggled childishly. Once he stopped twirling her, and the dizziness ceased, Nancy darted away from the boy as a joke. "Hey!" Steve called flirtatiously, chasing her. "Where are you going?" Nancy's laugher echoed throughout the entire house. When Steve finally caught up to her, she hadn't realized it, and he wrapped his arms around her, spinning her around once more. "Steve!" She squealed helplessly. He three the girl over his shoulder and headed out to the pool, carefully throwing her in.
Nancy swam to the side, holding her hand out. "Hey! Now you have to help me up!" Steve looked away with a sheepish smile, and held his hand out for her. Instead of pulling her up, she pulled him down with her.
For hours, the two flirted and played around.
Everything was right.
Nothing could go wrong... or so they thought.
