Four days later, Nancy was back at Home Video taking shifts with Steve once more. The store wasn't too busy and Steve was silently watching Nancy put VCRs on a shelf. The bell on the door rang as it swung open. Melissa Campbell walked through the door. Nancy continued to ignore the girl, focusing on the job at hand. Melissa walked up to Steve, who was currently ignoring her. "Hey, Stevie! Have you re-thought my offers? We can totally go out next weekend! Just me and you, canoodling at a movie! What do ya say?"
Nancy found her middle school nemesis's high-pitched voice nauseating. Steve wouldn't even look up at the girl as he answered her. "Look, if you aren't here for movies, you're going to have to leave. It's company policy. The door's right behind you. Don't let it hit you on the way out." The girl rolled her eyes and giggled in return. "You don't have to act all tough just because someone else is here, Stevie! We're meant to be and the whole world needs to know it!" Melissa booped his nose, not even taking a second to realize the girl working in the aisles was Nancy. Steve started to become bitter. "Listen, Campbell, if you don't stop coming around I'm going to file a restraining order on you. A real one. My friend knows a great lawyer and she will kick your ass. So beat it." Nancy smirked to herself, overhearing their conversation. The sassy girl whined and threw herself at Steve. "Stop it, Stevie! I know you want me and I want you! Stop playing around with these games and let's go to my house! My dad will take care of all of your financial issues and we can just be there, together, forever!"
Melissa pulled on Steve's arm, imploring him to follow her. He whacked her away. "Stop it, Melissa! Go away! I swear to god if you don't leave this store now I'm going to call the cops and have a restraining order put against you!" She screamed. "Why don't you love me, Stevie? WHY?" Nancy finished stocking movies on the shelf and walked over to the side where Steve was working. She faced the screeching bitch. "You heard him, Melissa. I think you better go." Nancy said, with no emotion displayed on her face. Melissa opened her eyes and turned to face her. "Nancy Wheeler. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be drowning yourself in books and Latin right now?" Steve's lip twitched as he became angrier.
Keith walked in from the back, seeing that the unknown girl in the front was causing unnecessary drama. "Who's this?" He asked blatantly. Nancy half turned around to face him. "From what Robin told me, this girl has been coming in to see Steve every day to ask him out. He's said no every single time and she won't stop. She's harassing him and what she's doing is against company policy." She emphasized. Keith frowned, turning to Steve. "What's her name, Harrington?" Steve's lip twitched once more as he was still fiery with rage. "Melissa, Keith. It's Melissa Campbell." Keith recognized that name immediately and his face turned to stone. He nodded to himself, writing down the name, and then walked up to the chaos-causing girl. "Don't come back here again, Melissa Campbell. You're about to have a restraint order filed against you." Melissa frowned and turned to Steve, putting on a fake smile for him. "I'll see you around, Stevie boo bear." She commented and blew a kiss before walking out the door. Nancy wrinkled her nose at the nickname Melissa had given him. As soon as the girl was out the door, Steve let out a long-held in breath. "God, I thought she'd never leave." Nancy watched the girl strut away outside of the store. "Yeah, I know." Steve turned around completely to face Keith. "So, Keith, buddy, how's that restraint order coming along?"
. . . . . . . . .
Two days later, on Saturday, Nancy, Robin, and Steve went out to spend a little time in downtown Hawkins.
"Oh my god! So she just was forced out? I wish I'd been there to witness it!" Robin laughed as hard as she could. Nancy smirked. "Yeah, she's not allowed to come within three hundred feet of the store." Steve rolled his eyes playfully. "I wish it'd been more. I hope I never see that girl another day in my life." Nancy walked closer to him, nudging his elbow, smiling. Robin giggled at what he'd said. "Yeah, I agree, Stevie boo bear." A wide smile spread across Nancy's face as she threw out a joke. "Again with the nickname! She really thought that it would make a difference!"
The three walked into the arcade together to go mess around and have some old silly fun. They spotted Max and Lucas playing Dig Dug together. Robin smirked at the two. "I'll be right back," she told Steve and Nancy. Steve smiled, watching his friends happy. He wrapped an arm around Nancy's shoulder. "I'm so happy you got your mom to budge one day, Nance," he told her. "Even if she does think that I'm Robin and you're helping me shop for flowers." She laughed and he kissed her. Everything was so peaceful. Happy.
Robin walked up to the two young teenagers, wrapping her left arm around Max and her right arm around Lucas. "Soooo, you two are back together now, huh? How's it going?" A gleam of light shimmered in Lucas's eyes. "Shut up," he said, knocking Robin's hand away. A smirk played on Max's lips. "Yeah, we're tryna play Dig Dug here," she agreed.
Then Robin spotted someone else. Someone she despised. Someone she was going to tar and feather. Melissa Campbell stood near the corner of the arcade, slyly watching the three mess around together. How did she even know they were going to be there?!
Robin ran back to Nancy and Steve as quickly as possible, ignoring Lucas and Max trying to distract her. "Guys- guys! She's here. Melissa is here. We have to go!" Anger flared in Steve's eyes while Nancy stood firm, not moving an inch. The girl started to walk towards them, looking directly at Nancy. Melissa was now in Nancy's face.
Countless emotions flickered across her face as Melissa spat out her ultimatum.
"Don't worry, Nancy Wheeler. The only thing I'm going to steal from you is Jonathan Byers. You were a fool to have let him go."
