Five Years Later
Steve helped Hadley down from her horse as Flynn darted off through the grass where they had stopped.
"I'll get 'em dad!" He called and ran after his two siblings who were running after one another screeching with excitement.
"ELSA! HUDSON! GET YOURSELVES BACK HERE RIGHT NOW!" Steve called, watching as Flynn now caught up to the three year old twins.
Two children had not been expected, having thought that Hadley had only been carrying just one after they'd married. However when she gave birth, it seemed like the babies had other ideas, Elsa to be precise. Steve would never forget the moment he'd burst into the room after hearing the small cry, both of he and his wife relishing in the joy that their son had arrived safely, only for her to grip his hand suddenly and begin screaming in pain once more.
"We've got another Helen!" Doctor Banner had said to Helen Cho as he'd looked between Hadley's legs and saw another baby's head begin to appear.
Elsa had arrived just minutes after, smaller than her brother but with a wail that could probably be heard all over Greystone.
Both Steve and Hadley had stared at one another in shock as the babies were placed into her arms, and spent a good few hours after just looking at them both without a word, admiring their children but also knowing that their work was cut out for them.
But they were adored by everyone, especially Sarah who had almost passed out seeing two babies instead of just one.
Hadley smirked as she watched their oldest son usher his siblings back towards them. Flynn had always regarded Steve as his father, and although he kind of understood that he wasn't his real one, he never had any questions regarding William. They would come out of curiosity and within time as he would get older, but Hadley would never lie to him. She'd simply tell him everything, but he would never feel any different or be treated so compared to the twins. He had the Rogers name now as well as his mother.
Flynn was a good rider at his age and had even started helping with more tasks with the horses now he was old enough to do so. Steve had never expected him to, but the boy had always held an interest in horses as well as what they did on the ranch. He lived and breathed them almost as much as his father did. In fact Flynn spent more time with Steve than he did his mother. Not that she minded. He and her husband had a special bond and always would.
"You stay where we can see you both" Hadley scolded the twins lightly, crouching down and straightening out her daughters dress that was already sporting grass stains.
"Sowwy mama" Elsa said in her little delicate voice.
Taking her younger son's hand whilst Elsa demanded to be picked up by Steve, the family made their way down to sit by the river, the horses grazing nearby. "Where's uncle Johnny? And Grandma?" Flynn asked as he sat on the blanket.
"On their way, they needed to sort Brandy's hoof out first before they could leave". Steve replied, settling down on the blanket while keeping his eye on his wandering twins, who were picking stones on the riverbank.
"I coulda fixed it" Flynn replied with a little confidence to his tone.
He'd adopted the Greystone twang in his voice that everyone had, and even Steve had noticed that when his wife sometimes said certain things or words, it would also show.
"I know you could've son, but another time". Steve ruffled his hair, then calling to the twins. "Alright you two, come sit down and have a drink", leading Elsa and Hudson away from the riverbank to sit back down. Both of them with a collection of stones in their hands.
Settling next to his wife he gave her a deep kiss, as she lay back in his lap. "Is this the life of what Mrs Rogers?"
She craned her beck slightly to look up at him with a smile.
"It's the only one I need, husband".
