Roman POV

The only soothing thing at the moment was that it wouldn't be long before we arrived at the nearest hospital. However, it was very disturbing to see how the bruises on DJ's body were getting darker with every minute that passed. I would have loved to hold her in my arms, but of course I didn't want to cause her any additional pain.

When we arrived at the hospital, she was immediately taken to the emergency room. I tried to get in, but a resolute elderly nurse stopped me before I could even take a step into the examination room.

I glared at her angrily and tried to step around her. However, she didn't seem to mind my angry glare as she blocked me from the door.

"Sir, you are not allowed in here. You need to go to the waiting room, please. The doctors will inform you of her condition as soon as they can." she said in a forced polite voice.

"This is my wife and I have to stay with her!" I growled as I tried to get past her again.

"I'm aware of that, Sir. But the best way for you to help your wife right now is to let the doctors do their work. She's about to be taken for X-rays and other tests you're not allowed to be present for either. We'll take care of her," she replied calmly.

"I expect to be kept informed of everything. Otherwise, I'm going to sue this place. Do you hear me? I want to know how my wife is doing at all times!" I said in a sharp voice as I glared at the nurse.

"Sir, threats are hardly the way to go. I know you're worried about your wife, so I'm going to pretend you didn't say anything. But if you don't calm down, I'm going to have to call security. Do you understand? Now.... sit down. I'll bring you the forms for you to fill out," she said without a blink.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it." I replied after taking a few deep breaths to calm myself down.

"It's okay. I'll be right back." she then said, but waited until I sat down in the waiting area.

What was it with these women today, telling me what to do? Maybe it was for the best.... Otherwise I would have probably done something very stupid, if I was not put in my place.

Here I sat, after probably the most horrible day of my life, waiting for the door to open and someone to come in and tell me how my Dani was doing. Every minute that passed was like an hour. Every second felt like nails were digging into my skin. This sitting around was torture. I was about to pull out each hair individually when someone finally came.

"Mr. Reigns?" a doctor asked from the doorway.

"Yes, that's me. How is my wife?" I immediately wanted to know as I jumped to my feet.

"She has four broken ribs and a small crack to her cheekbone. She also has a concussion. The wound on her thigh has been stitched. And um... yes, she has a lot of bruises all over her body. She lost a lot of blood from the laceration on her head and the one on her leg, but it's not life-threatening." he replied.

"That means... she's going to be okay?" I asked.

"Yes, she will. It will take a few days, but then she can go home. She is awake and wants to see you. But please keep in mind that your wife is very exhausted and traumatized. Take it easy. I'll accompany you," he explained and then I followed him down the long corridors of the hospital until we finally arrived in front of the right room.

He let me enter and my eyes immediately fell on Dani. She looked so small as she lay there. Her eyes were closed. Maybe she had already fallen asleep. I was glad, so glad not to have lost her. I took a chair and put it by the bed before I took her hand and pressed a kiss on it.

Dani then opened her eyes and carefully turned her head in my direction. Immediately I saw that she had cried. That was to be surely expected. If I had had time for it, I probably would have cried my own eyes out. But I had to be strong.

"Hey baby girl... How are you feeling?" I asked softly.

"Not so sure yet." she replied in a raspy voice as the tears began to fall again.

"It's all good now. He can't hurt you anymore. Never again will he come near you. I promise you that." I said as I gently stroked her hand.

"Roman... I... I love you." she said hesitantly as if something else was going through her mind.

"I love you too, Dani. So much. I was so scared for you." I replied as the tears finally came. Out of relief, but especially out of love for this woman.
