TW: planes, talk of death, swearing

                                    *
Even the thought of planes made Nick want to scream. When you really thought about it, planes were just massive, metal birds. What kept them from plummeting hundreds of feet to the ground, killing everyone inside?
" Nick?" Matt's voice startled him from his phone. " What're you looking at?" He leaned over his shoulder before Nick could close his phone.
      " Oh- uh- it's not-"
" Plane crashes from Boston to LA?" Matt read out from the headline of the article. He gave Nick a meaningful look.
" I was just doing some light research..."
      " Light?"
Chris pulled his eyes away from the window where he was watching the planes outside take off.
" Still scared of planes, Nicky?" He teased. " Big, bad, scary airplanes."
" Shut up, Chris." Nick shoved him. " At least I'm not afraid of rollercoasters-"
" Flight number 204 is now boarding-" A robotic voice droned.
" That's us." Matt grabbed his backpack and ushered the bickering pair towards the gate.
Nick could feel his heart pounding uncomfortably under his ribs. Sweat popped out on his forehead.
    Planes falling.
    Fiery crashes.
The pressing of gravity, willing you back to the earth...
" Matt?" His voice was shaky. Matt looked up from where he was showing their boarding tickets and passports.
    " Yeah Nick?"
    " I-I don't like this-can we-"
" It's ok, Nick." Chris swooped in, grabbing Nick's hand and squeezing gently. " At least if we die we'll make it into the news-"
" Chris!" Matt chided. He nodded at the person checking their passports and pushed the three down the cold hallway.
Nick gasped, eyes widening. His throat was closing... he couldn't breathe...
    Planes falling.
    Giant, metal birds.
    Fiery crashes.
    Death.
At least we'll be in the news...
" Shit." Matt muttered, shoving a pale Nick into their row. " Of course the one and only time we travel alone this happens."
" I know." Chris slid over to the window seat before Matt. " Ha, loser. Nick gets the middle seat."
    Nick shuddered slightly, hands twitching.
" Hey, you're alright." Matt grabbed Nick's hand while Chris grabbed the other. " I'll get you some water." He nodded to an airport attendant.
" Nervous flier?" She asked sweetly.
" Mhm. Could we have some water please?"
She complied, placing the glass in front of Nick.
After a couple minutes and a safety demonstration ( which Nick followed with a serious intensity) the plane began to take off.
" Here, take this." Chris pulled a pack of gum out of his pocket and popped three pieces into his mouth. " Helps with ears, or whatever."
Pressure pinned Nick to his seat as the plane began to lift off. Between being squished between his two brothers and the mounting anxiety, Nick was having a hard time focusing on anything.
    " Nick?"
    " 'Feel claustrophobic..."
Matt winced, thinking quickly. " Here, switch seats with me."
" But-" Before Nick could think, Matt had slid out of his aisle seat and pushed Nick into it.
    " There. Is that better?"
    " Y-yeah."
Chris scoffed. " Don't expect me to take the middle seat for you, dude. I'd rather take a bullet."
The plane reached a cruising altitude and Matt could feel the tension leaking out of his brother's body. The three took a collective breath in relief.
                                   *
The shaking woke Nick up with a start. For a second he blinked in confusion, then he remembered.
    Blinking seatbelt signs.
    Falling planes.
    Fiery crashes-
" Chris?" Nick reached across Matt, who was snoring lightly. He knew that Chris was the lighter sleeper of the two. He shook him roughly.
" Chrissy? Chrissy wake up-" ( Haha I'm sry)
Chris jumped slightly, blue eyes snapping open.
" Nick- what the hell-" He swept Nick's face, noting the tear stains and panicked eyes. " Nick, what's wrong?"
" T-the plane is shaking. W-we're gonna die-"
" Hey." Chris steadied his shaking hand. " It's just a bit of turbulence. We'll be just fine."
He continued to sooth Nick until the plane steadied itself. Matt woke up and joined, rubbing Nick's back gently.
Nick eventually calmed down, but when they finally touched down, he was never happier to see flat ground.
He wasn't sure what would have happened if his brothers hadn't been there.

Sry for the shifty ending
