"How did he even get your number?" I was freaking out. Damien was a boy from the town me and my mom had moved from before Goldsliver. He had turned into a psychopath after I had dumped him and almost tried to kill me. I was almost afraid, even though I could still remember when I loved him. I also remembered when we had grown up together and fallen in love when he took me to a concert of a band I loved. Then, after I moved, I heard rumors that he had become famous online. I never believed it. Maybe it hadn't been as much of a lie as I had originally thought.
I had been running away from him for almost four years. I had hoped he wouldn't find me in Goldsliver, but when he did I really didn't care because he still didn't have my number. I had changed my number several times so he would stop finding me, but he found me every time.
I can honestly say I do miss him, but I realize that he has become an awful person, and sometimes I feel like it's my fault. "Did he leave a message?" I asked shakily. She nodded slowly. I grabbed the phone and pressed play on the message. It said, "Hey Marcie, it's Damein. I wanted to know if Amie is there. I wanted to apologize for all the things I did to her. I'm going to be in Shadow Falls, California for a while, and I wanted to say goodbye before I leave. I'll be over to her house on Friday to say goodbye. I'd really like to see you too, Marcie, for old time's sake. I hope I'll see you there."
"What are we going to do?! He's going to show up at my house and find out I'm not in town anymore. Speaking of that, once he gets here, he'll probably end up going to my school."
"Oh well! You have new friends here. Plus, if he hasn't changed, you can always get him kicked out of school for it." I sighed. "It still means I have to deal with him for a while."
Just then, I saw something through the window. I looked through it and saw Juliette frantically waving at me. I opened my window just a crack and motioned for her to speak. "Sorry about that. I was trying really hard to get your attention. Me and my sister, Lily just saw two really cute guys in front of the house on the other side of yours. They both had brown, spiky hair, and they looked super athletic." She sighed.
I laughed. "So I might have super cute neighbors. Do you want to come over and hang out with Marcie and I?" She nodded and walked away from her window. Marcie and I sat on my bed until Juliette walked in and dropped her bag next to the door. She walked straight over to Marcie. "It's really nice to meet you." Marcie shook her hand. Juliette mouthed to me, "Does she know?" I shook my head. Then I smiled. "So. Should we go outside and meet these cute guys?" I was simply trying to forget my problems. Sadly, I had no Idea as to what lie ahead of me.
We walked down the spiraling staircase and through the living room. I yelled behind me, "We're going outside to meet the new neighbors!" I heard a quiet "Ok" from the kitchen. I smiled and pushed the door open, holding it for Marcie and Juliette. "They're even cuter up close!" Juliette exclaimed. I giggled, not looking at them, but at Juliette's lovestruck face. Then I looked over at Marcie's face. Her mouth was wide open, but not in admiration. Her face was filled with horror.
