I woke up to Astora's face hovering over mine. I held back a scream and popped up straight. She stood up straight and giggled. I rubbed my eyes. "Time for your first day of school!" She waved her hands. She pulled me out of bed and thrust an outfit she had secretly picked out for me towards me. It was a colorful paint-splattered skirt and a plain black tank-top and a plain pink cover-up. I grabbed it and ran into the closet to change. I put the outfit on and brushed my hair before pulling it back into a sloppy bun. I pulled on a pair of stylish, black tennis shoes and rushed out of my closet.
I closed the door behind me and grabbed my locket to put it around my neck. I had been afraid that if I wore it to sleep it would break. I looked at a full size mirror hanging on my wall next to my door and admired the outfit in the mirror. I twirled once in the mirror and walked out the door and down the long hallway with confidence. Inside though, I was freaking out. I walked down the stairs quickly and lightly and headed to the kitchen. I walked in and saw Astora and Cass chatting at the table. Astora handed me a plate and ushered me to the table. I sat down next to where she was sitting and she handed me a black and blue backpack. I smiled in delight and pulled it onto my lap to look through it. It had several books, folders, and papers. The first paper I picked out was apparently my school schedule.
I have homebase and first period social studies with Mr. Jenkins and second math with Mr. Hansen. I then have third and fourth period reading with Mrs. Lundquist. After that I have band and choir fifth with lunch in the middle. I wonder how that works. I then have science with Mr. Jove. Seventh is study hall and eighth is hex. Hex is a series of five different classes which you have for seven weeks each. This hex I have art for three more weeks. I groaned and put the schedule back into my backpack.
I ate the pancakes Astora had placed on my plate and wondered what this new school would be like and if I would make any friends. I pulled my bookbag on and pushed my chair in. Astora grabbed a bag off her chair and put it on her shoulder. She put her hand on my back and guided me out to the car. On our way out, I saw a girl about my age run over to us. She had long, dark hair and dark eyes. She had tan skin and bangs that were falling in her face. She held out her hand to me. "I'm Juliette." She smiled brightly. I grabbed her hand and shook it. "I'm Amie." She continued smiling until a young boy ran out of the house next to ours yelling her name. Her face sank. "That's my little brother, Joey." She hid her mouth behind her hand and whispered, "He's a huge pest." She smiled. "I guess I'll see you in school then, Amie." I nodded.
Astora then ushered me into the car and I sat in the front seat again. I pulled my book-bag onto my lap and she pulled out of the long driveway and away from the house. We wove around some corners and pulled up in front of a large building with kids about my age and a little older than me who were milling around in the front. Astora swung the car around into the parking lot off to the side and I hopped out. She got out on the other side and guided me through the crowd to the doors of the school. She pulled me through and in the direction of what seemed to be the office.
She pulled me up to the counter and told them who I was. they gave me directions to my first class, homebase, and I headed off to the room with the number on my schedule. Juliette appeared next to me and asked where I was going and directed me to Jenkins' room before she was pulled away by the crowd. I walked to the classroom she had pointed to. I walked in and a girl motioned for me to sit next to her. She had short, choppy, black hair and bright eyes. She held out her hand to me the same way Juliette had. "I'm Bry." She said. At least, that's what I thought she said. She wrote her name on a paper and it was spelled Brie. I looked at her oddly and she must have noticed, and she said, "I bet your name is spelled weird too. What is it?" She raised her eyebrows. I looked down sheepishly. "It's Amy spelled A-m-i-e." I muttered. She smiled in approval.
