Between Us

"C'mere sweetheart" Mason cooed, pulling you in his arms as you cried against his chest. He didn't need you to say the words... he knew by the way you walked in with puffy eyes and mascara stained cheeks that the meeting only went one way... the band was over!

"T-there saying i-it will be on-only for 2 y-years..." You stuttered, lifting your head from his chest to look at him with teary eyes "But I know i-it'll be l-longer..."
Mason's heart broke as he held you closer, not even caring that you were ruining one of his favourite shirts. The band was everything you had known, your safe place for almost 11 years. With being together for 3 years now, Mason knew that you hated change... but deep down he knew there's a deeper meaning for your heartbreak.

"Hey... gorgeous look at me..." He breathed out, cupping your cheeks to look at him as he used his thumbs to wipe away your tears "You're going to be alright okay?... You are the most talented person I know baby, whatever you decide to do with your career your going to smash it.. in the group or on your own!"

"But that's the thing Mase..." You whispered, "I'm going to be on my own again..."
There it was... the real reason for your tears! You weren't scared about being a solo act or the fact your career might fade a way like you've seen before with other groups. You were scared of losing your family... your safe place.

Seeing the tears coming back, he immediately scooped you up in his arms, carrying you up the stairs bridal style "C'mon honey..." He whispered in your hair "Let's get you ready for bed yeah?"
He didn't want to push the conversation further, knowing the struggles you have faced with your own family in the past. But with the rest of the girls all now starting their families and finding their own new comfort... it was hard for your mind not to whisk off and think of what things would have been like if your family would have stayed by your side. It was always hard on tours with everyone's families joining them and you barely having anyone in your box... Mason always tried his best to attend as many shows as he could but with his busy schedule it was hard for him to go to as many as he wanted to, and you understood that. He just wished he could give more... more of the love that you deserved.

Once he helped you change into some more comfy clothes and cleaned your face, he carried you into bed, making sure you were all tucked in before he climbed into his side of the bed, only holding you tighter into his chest.

"Angel?" He whispered, not being sure if you had fallen asleep yet. Nodding your head slightly, you let out a little hum letting him know that you were listening. "I just want to say... even tho the group is ending, and the future is unknown..." Feeling your body tense, he pressed his hand on the small of your back, tracing little circles that he knew helped you relax "I will promise you that no matter what happens... I'm not going anywhere! I know you feel like you aren't a part of a family anymore, with the girls starting their own and the people we aren't going to talk about... But I just want to make it clear, you will always... forever, no doubt be a part of mine... I just wanted to let you know before that little mind of yours runs away with all that doubt... you are not alone... and I will not let you be either!"

Silence filled the air as he worried for a second that you didn't hear it... but when he heard your muffled sniffles, he knew you heard everything. "Oh gorgeous... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you cry!" Mason cooed, sitting up as he held you as tight as he possibly could "Please don't cry honey... your breaking my heart!"

"You don't know how badly I needed to hear that right now.." You sobbed, covering your face with your hands, causing his heart to shatter. "I don't deserve you Mase..."

Laying you back down, he pulled you so you were lying on top of him "You deserve the world baby... and I'm going to do everything in my power to give it to you!"
