"You're not from around here are you? Perhaps I should help you look for this person?" At this you take a small breath and turn to the dreaded Cavalry Captain trying to appear normal.

"That would be great, thank you. See, a bard, Venti, was taking me on a tour of Mondstadt but he seems to have disappeared when I was admiring the statue." You say, hoping and praying, Kaeya wouldn't decide to challenge you on the spot. You weren't lying but you were hiding your nervousness by being overly happy, which probably made you seem more suspicious.

The cryo vision bearer narrows his eyes, looking you up and down but sighs and gestures for you to follow him.

"Alright then traveller, follow me. We'll take you into the Knights of Favonious headquarters so you don't get lost looking for him and we'll let you know when we find that bard." Kaeya says as he begins to move towards the stairs. You almost let out a sigh in relief but you gulp it down knowing he could probably still hear you.

"My name is [Y/n] by the way." You say after a moment of silence to try and gain even the smallest amount of trust from this man.

"[Y/n]?" His eyes narrow in thought for a second. "Where about are you from [Y/n]? I'm not sure I'm familiar with a name like yours." You purse your lips for a second while you try to formulate a response.

"There's a small village in Sumeru that likes to create new names. There are some really random and weird ones as well." You bullshit, the words just falling out one after the other. You hoped to Barbatos that it was believable. "Anyway helpful stranger, what's your name?"

"I'm Kaeya, Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonious" He responds and you nod, giving a small bow in return. You hear a low chuckle at your bow but you just smile. "You are an interesting character..."

"Hm? What do you mean?" You ask tilting your head, trying to sound as innocent as possible without seeming fake. Kaeya glances back at you.

"I haven't met someone like you before." He says simply which doesn't give you a lot to go on. Finally you reach the door to the headquarters. You start to fidget with your hands nervously as he leads you to Jean's office. You heavily hoped that she would recognise you and save you from Keaya's eyes. Despite being, canonically, approachable you knew this man had trust issues and would watch you like a hawk. He raises his fist and knocks on the door.

"Come in." Oh thank god she was in there, wait should you act surprised? She never told you she was the acting grand master.

"Oh Kaeya what brings you- [Y/n]?"

Her voice takes you out of your thoughts, when did Kaeya open the door. He looks to you, surprised that you have met Jean.

"You've met Acting Grand-Master Jean?" He asks with a raised eyebrow and you stare at Jean to avoid his eyes.

"Y-yes, but I had no idea you were a Grand Master- A-are you sure I shouldn't bow?" You stutter out, from both nervousness and to try and act surprised. Jean just shakes her head and you notice the small girl next to her.

"Acting Grand-Master." She corrects before continuing. "And you met me when I was just Jean so please do not bow." She shakes her head. You continued to stare at the child next to her and the inside of your head was melting at how cute Klee was in the flesh. "Oh this is Klee. Klee this is [Y/n], they're staying with Master Diluc."

"Oh are they?" Keaya turns to you again with a raised eyebrow. "Well I didn't know that."

"Well you never asked. I hadn't realised Master Diluc was so well known." You flinch slightly at saying "Master Diluc". It felt wrong to say. Klee waves to and you wave back, glad to have a distraction from Kaeya's stare.
