Chapter 8

Back at MED

Just as Casey came back Alex was back from the scan as well. He walked in saw her laying in the bed half awake.

"You don't have to stay here. I'll be fine" Alex suddenly said taking Casey's hand as she was looking up at him.

"We don't want you to be alone. Severide will be here soon to switch with me until Jay gets off shift" Casey said smiling at her as she smiled back at him.

"Thank you, for everything Matt. I love you" Alex said as her eyes started forming tears.

"Anything for you Alex you know that and I love you too" Casey said kissing the top of her head as Severide walked in as Casey stood up.

"Hey Kelly, what's up? I'm doing great" Alex said laughing as Severide started laughing as well.

"They gave her something to relax her a bit, so if she seems a bit loopy that's why. Have fun" Casey laughing as Severide hit him lightly in a joking manner as he took the seat where Casey had been sitting the past hours as April walked in.

"Hey Kelly, hey Alex. How are you feeling?" She asked checking her vitals as Severide said a quick hi.

"Like I wanna vomit everything out and it doesn't help that I have another human growing inside me" Alex said as the medicine she was given earlier was starting to wear off.

"That's a completely normal side affect from the medicine you got earlier. Everything looks good and your CT results should be back soon. I can give you something to help with the nausea if you want that?" April asked as Alex nodded her head and took Severides hand and closed her eyes trying to not vomit everywhere.

"It should start working within a few minutes" April said walking out again as Severide thanked her and turned to look at Alex.

"You're gonna be okay. You're the strongest person I know" Severide said smiling at her as she turned to smile at him when nausea finally started to wear off.

Back at the Firehouse

Casey parked his car and walked into the firehouse and into the common room to sit down at the table when Stella, Boden and Hermann came up to him.

"Hey, how is she?" Stella asked looking worried at him.

"The baby is unharmed and she just came back from the CT scan as Severide arrived to switch with me and then she feels a bit nausea as well but other than that everything looked fine. Severides gonna call me once the results are in" Casey said as everyone let out a relieved sound.

"Sylvie your new floater should be here soon to fill in for Alex for the rest of this shift and next shift. She needs a bit time off now and she's not going back until she feels 100% okay for it plus she's going on Maternity leave soon. So your floater might become permanent until she's back" Casey said as Brett nodded her head in understanding as Casey's phone started ringing.

Hey what's up - Casey

Hey man, the results just got back from her scan - Severide

Okay is it good or bad? - Casey

They're good. They didn't see any permanent damage to her brain. It's just a light concussion. So they want her to stay overnight for observation and then tomorrow they'll discharge her if everything looks good - Severide

That's great news. Are you staying the night with her or should I send Stella after shift is over? - Casey

"Jay texted me saying he would come as soon as he's off shift. But I don't think she would mind it if Stella came by - Severide

Okay, I'll say that to her then. Greet her for me. See you - Casey

I will. See you later bro - Severide

Severide said as they both hung up and Casey went to update the others.

"I just got an update from Severide. Alex's scan is normal there was no damage to be found. She just has a small concussion, but she's expected to be released tomorrow" Casey said as everyone cheered relieved for her.

"Oh and Stella do you mind dropping by to see her after shift" Casey asked her as she nodded her head and everyone walked back to what they were doing when a young brown haired girl walked in.

"Hi Emma Jacobs, I'm the new paramedic" She said as Casey and Boden greeted her.

"Nice to meet you Jacobs. Brett!" Casey called as Brett walked up to him standing in front of the girl.

"Emma Jobs. I'm your new partner on 61" She said introducing herself as Brett greeted her not looking particularly happy and hoped Alex would come back soon.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Sylvie Brett. The Paramedic In Charge on 61" Brett said introducing herself to her as she put on a forced smile.

"I can't wait to work with you" She said smiling and acting all fake in Brett's eyes. She could already tell they wouldn't get along well, but she reminded herself that it was only gonna be for one and a half shift and then Alex would be back.
