The Halstead Reunion

Chapter 9

At MED

At med it was getting late and Alex was finally starting to feel better meanwhile Severide had been switched out by Jay without her noticing. She woke up and looked to her side to see Jay sleeping in the chair Severide were sitting in before she fell asleep. She looked up at the clock and saw it was close to 5:30 in the morning. She had no idea of when Severide left and Jay arrived, but what she did know was that it was almost around time for Will to meet in for work which wasn't good. She managed to avoid him successfully yesterday not letting him know she's there, but let's see how that's gonna go today. She sat up slowly not wanting to make herself dizzy or wake up Jay. She removed the cover and quietly song her legs to the side of the bed cuz she needed to stand up and move around a bit. She grabbed the roller where the saline bags were hanging on while holding onto it tightly as she slowly walked out leaving a note for Jay in case he woke up do he wouldn't freak out.

She walked around in the ICU when she was met by April who went over to help her.

"Aren't you supposed to be in bed?" She asked laughing a bit trying to keep it quiet.

"Yes, but I need to move around plus I feel better than what I did yesterday" Alex said holding on to April with her other arm as Will came out of the elevator and she immediately tried to turn around when April stopped her.

"You have to tell him. It's better if he hears it from you than a third part" April said as she nodded her head walked in to Will's point of view and as soon as he noticed her he was o er by her side in seconds.

"I got her thanks April. Alex are you okay?" Will asked concerned as he looked at her.

"I'm fine now and I mean that. Yesterday me and Brett crashed 61 and I took the biggest hit, but it's only a small concussion so they're discharging me later today" Alex said grabbing onto Will for support as he held his arm around her.

"Okay i trust you if you say you're okay. So I guess that's why Matt was here yesterday and not because he was getting supplies for you guys" Will said laughing a bit as Alex nodded her head leaning into her brothers side as he led her back to her room and helped her back up on the bed seeing his younger brother sound asleep on the chair.

"Once sleeping beauty here wakes up i have some big news to tell both of you and Hailey. Natalie already knows as I made her keep it a secret" Alex said smiling at him as he smiled back.

"Okay. I will come check on you again later" Will said as he walked out and the closed the door which made Jay wake up and sit straight up.

"I'm up, I'm awake" He said sitting up rubbing his eyes like sleeping was a crime at the moment.

"Good morning sleeping beauty" Alex said laughing a bit as Jay sarcastically laughed back.

"You seem to be doing better. When I came in last night you were passed out cold and then Stella arrived and we had a little talk before she left again." Jay said as Alex just nodded her head.

"I'm hungry. Also Will knows I'm here and I have something to tell you guys later when he comes back" Alex said leaning back as Jay stood up.

"What do you want? Shall we go to the cafeteria?" Jay asked as Alex nodded her head and stepped out of bed grabbing on to Jay as they walked down to the cafeteria and got seated when Jay walked up to order.

Short time after he came back with two small burgers and two coffees.

"Dr. Charles says the  burgers here are actually really good so I'm excited for this" I said laughing as I started eating like I haven't been eating for like a week. Cuz to be fair I was eating for two people now.

After getting some food they walked back up to her room to see Hailey and Will in there. As soon as she saw Hailey she wanted to run over to her, but she knew she couldn't do that right now so instead Jay helped her back on the bed and she hugged her from there.

"So Will says you have some exciting news to tell us!" Hailey says all excited to hear what it is as her and Will took a seat next to her on the other side of the bed.

She took both Jay and Will's hands and placed them on each side of her belly and looked at them with excitement and emotions all over the place.

"You're gonna be uncles! I'm 12 almost 13 weeks ahead" She said as they both widened their eyes as Hailey jumped a bit in excitement.

"OMG! There's gonna a fifth Halstead! Congrats sis" Jay said all excited as he got tears in his eyes.

"I'm so happy for you! Who's the dad?" Will asked becoming a bit over protective but happy at the same time.

"I met him when I was in New York. His name is Dominick and he works with Sex Crimes for the NYPD. He's coming to Chicago next week for my first scan. I think you guys will really like him" Alex said all excited as all three of them hugged her.

"We can't wait to meet him. He sounds great" Jay said looking up at Will giving him the protective brother look that is way too familiar.

"Have you thought of any names yet?" Hailey asked as she nodded her head.

"Yes I have. If it's a girl Caitlyn Skye Halstead and if it's a boy Joshua William Halstead" Alex said as Will got tears in his eyes hearing that she wanted his name as a middle name for her child.

"Those names are so cute and I think you made uncle Will cry with the boy name" Hailey said laughing a bit as she looked up at Will who busy drying his eyes.

"And I thought that since I put Will's name as middle name i want you and Hailey to be the god parents. But I still have to run all of this by Dominick first, so nothing is official yet" Alex said smiling as Jay hugged her.

"We would love to no matter the outcome of this" Jay said smiling at her as she looked up at Will.

"Can I get discharged?" She asked as he checked her vital again to make sure everything was alright before heading out to get the papers as he came back short time after and Alex signed them as they left her so she could get dressed when they walked her out of Med and drove her back to the firehouse after she tried to convince them multiple times.

Arriving she walked into the common room and sat on the couch like it was nothing when they noticed her.

"Halstead! You're back. How are you?" Hermann asked hugging her as everyone went up to hug her when Boden came in as well.

"I'm okay. I got discharged this morning and got cleared for duty, but my brothers wants me to stay home or at least a week before going back to work fully" Alex said sitting down at the table.

"I agree with them on that. It's good to see you back at the house. We missed you" Casey said hugging her as they smiled at each other when Jacobs took her shot and went to introduce herself hoping Alex wouldn't recognise her.

"Emma Jacobs. I'm filling in for you on 61" She said reaching out her hand to shake it when Alex decided to turn on her "acting møde" and everyone knew it was bad when she did that, but also a bit funny.

"Hi. Alex Halstead, I'm Sylvie's partner on 61. How nice of you to keep my seat warm for me while I'm gone. But don't worry it won't be for long" Alex adding a fake laugh in at the end while Stella, Brett, Severide and Casey was trying their absolute best not to burst out laughing.

"Well I better keep going. Don't want to keep Jay and Will waiting outside for too long" Alex said greeting everyone goodbye as she hugged Stella and Sylvie wishing them luck as Jacobs spoke up.

"Wait your brother is Detective Halstead?" She asked as Alex could feel her getting a bit nervous.

"Yeah he is, so don't get on my bad side" Alex said walking out waving at everyone as she walked outside in the cold Chicago weather feeling content with herself after seeing her crumble like that by the mention of Jay.
