Chapter Thirty-Nine| Trevor

I'm so proud of Destiny, for getting her dream job, she spoke to me about how she did an interview with them but they never got back to her. So, she assumed they had ...found another person. So, she was over the moon when she got the call from them.

I know what you're thinking, Did I have anything to do with her getting the job? No, she earned it all by herself. Destiny is amazing and so is her career that she worked very hard for. I could never overstep when it comes to her career.

"I'm coming back in three days," I spoke through the phone to Destiny.

"I know, and then summer is over and I have to go to New York. So far this summer has been really good."

"I'm glad, you're having fun." Just ask her already, Trevor. "Nini, I wanted to ask you something."

"I'm listening," she hums.

"My last night here, the team is having a dinner party, I would like for you to come and be my date."

"Really?" She gleamed, "I'd love to come with you, Trevor."

After I flew out to Cincinnati, I spent a day at Trevor's house by myself until he came home last night. we spent the entire day doing nothing, but together. I was grateful they got to spend some alone time, after being in a house with our family for the entire summer.

"You ready to go?" Trevor asked standing in the doorway of the bathroom, looking sexy as hell. A black polo shirt and dress pants with fresh off-white Air Jordan 4's.

I finish up with my last layer of lipgloss, before moving away from the sink countertop. "Yeah, let me get my purse." Trying to maneuver myself around him, when he grabs me by my waist, I stare up at him, "What?"

"I can't admire my woman."

He pecks my lips, "Why you always gotta put on so much lip gloss?

"Because I'm that girl and when you're that girl, you can't get caught without enough lipgloss."

I grab one of my makeup wipes and swipe across Trev's lips. He continues to kiss my lips causing me to giggle. "How you gonna complain about my lipgloss, but you keep kissing me."

"But, I just love your lips so much," he grips my ass.

"Come let's go before we're late."

...

The place was nice, it was a lakehouse. A very large one at that,  the grounds were covered with people and expensive cars being parked by the valet. As soon as we walked in, all eyes were on us, not surprising because Trevor is their star quarterback. Practically, the face of their team.

"Yo Trevor," a tall black guy approached us, his face was familiar to me. I recognize him as one of the wide receivers on the team, Chris, with a woman on his arm, who I am assuming is his wife, with a large diamond ring on her finger.

"What's up, man," Trevor greeted him. "This is my girlfriend, Destiny," he introduces me to his friend. I welcomed the couple, and we spoke for a bit.

Trevor kept me close by his side as I could disappear at any moment. Before the dinner started we took a couple of photos with some of his other teammates and their partners, and his coaches as well. Everyone was super welcoming.

As we are now seated at one of the many round tables in this banquet hall, dinner has been served and a queue of people is at the podium speaking about the up-and-coming season. During the head coach's speech, he invited Trevor to go up there and say a few words, considering he was MVP. The room started a round of applause to encourage Trevor to say a few words. I nudged him to go, he pulled his chair back. padding down his shirt and walking onto the stage.

"Uhh, I'll just keep it short and sweet for y'all," he spoke into the mic. "This last season was crazy, although I was MVP, it was clear that we wouldn't have gotten where we was without damn near everyone in this room. From our O-line to the guys making sure Coach O, didn't attack the refs," the room bursted into laughter. Trevor chuclkes and continues, "And as long as we keep up that momentum, this next season will be legendary as well."

He turns his sight to me, "I think for me this year, was surrounding myself with people I truly cared about and that I love and supported me."

"Nini," he spoke, "I love you."

I'm sorry...what?

"...Thank you for all of the support this season."

I feel everyone's eyes focused on me, so I'm trying my best not to mean mugg at this motherfucker. Like what is up with him and these public displays of affection.

"Thank for you time everyone, can't wait for this next season."

 ...

I slap him across his arm, after we made it to the first traffic light away from the banquet hall. He yelps out, "What was that for?" I slap him again, with a little more force, "Nini, please use your words."

"Yeah, you would know a lot about using your words." He switches his view between me and the road, " You said and I quote, 'I love you, Nini', in front of a crowd of people before saying it to me ever. You can see how I would be a little pissed by that."

He sighs, "I'm sorry, Nini, I don't know what I was thinking...It just felt natural, I do love you, I've loved you for a long time and I'm not trying to force you into saying it back." We stop at a red light, he gives me all of his attention, "I just wanted you to know... shit, I want the whole world to know."

"Is that so?" I question.

"Yes, it is and like I said you don't have to rush into saying it because I did."
