Chapter Thirty-Two| Trevor

Ion know who the fuck this dude is? But, he gonna have to get the fuck up outta my house. The entire dinner conversation has been about him. And Nini keeps giggling at his corny ass jokes.

She supposes to laugh at my corny jokes.

"So, Carter, your mom says you are playing in the minor leagues now. What's that like?" my mother spoke.

He smirks, "Yeah, for about a year now, and if things go well this season coming up, I could be heading to the pros."

I clear my throat, almost cutting off his last word. Turning everyone's attention to me.

"Is there something you would like to say, Trevor?" Carter asked me.

I shrug, "I was just thinking, it can't be that hard to get into the pros for baseball. Maybe if it was an actual tough sport like Basketball or..."

"...Or Football," he finished my sentence.

"Exactly," I exclaimed.

The room goes extremely silent.

Carter places his fork down, "Just because we don't suffer concussion every time we step on the field, doesn't make it a real man's sport."

"First of all, I never said it wasn't a real man's sport, I said it wasn't tough. And making fun of players that C.T.E., is a little ableist don't you think?"

"Alright boys," My dad spoke. "Let's relax on the sports talk at the dinner table."

I rolled my eyes.

"I thought it would never end," Nini whispered under her breath.

"You're right Mr. Walker, let's change the subject," Carter spoke up. "Destiny, I heard you just graduated with a journalism degree. Have you thought about what you're gonna do with it?"

Surprisingly, Nini's face lit up at his question, "Uhh, yes actually, I have a network company lined up for the fall, specifically in broadcasting."

"Oh, so you gonna be on the news and stuff if you were on Channel Five News. I'd walk up early morning just to see your face."

She blushes at his comment, she is actually entertaining this.

"Actually, I'm not gonna be in front of the camera, just making sure everything behind the scenes is good, like what topics would we cover. Ranges from politics, world news, and stories that are overlooked by other media platforms."

I smile, as she talks about her career. Reminds me of when we would younger, she would never give up on her dreams of being a journalist.

We would sit around and talk about it for hours, I'm glad to see her finally happy.

"So, what made you wanna become a journalist?" Carter asked her.

She turns her attention to me, making eye contact with me, before answering his question. "I just thought I would be good at it, nothing significate."

That's a lie.

She continues to hold eye contact with me, before looking down at her plate.
