Fear's a Mysterious Thing

Ari and I are in the gym training when she says, We're getting a new kid today."

I raise my eyebrow as she dodges my punch and ask, "And I should care why?"

"I'm not saying you should, just that he's human. He's Adams' nephew and apparently he doesn't know anything about us or the other supernatural creatures in this school," she continues, throwing a kick.

I grab her leg and knock her off her feet as I reply, "So Adams thinks it's a good idea to bring a human here? Yeah, because that's smart."

She groans at the impact and continues, "Apparently he's going to tell him eventually, but until then, he wants to keep it a secret."

I roll my eyes as I offer her my hand and she grabs it. "So what, we're just supposed to pretend this is a normal, private boarding school?"

"As far as I know, he wants that for the time being, meaning you have to be on your best behaviour," she tells me in a semi-threatening tone.

I eye her up and down before smirking and I say, "You have my word, sister."

She gives me the look she gives me every time she doesn't believe me and threatens, "I swear, Zai, I will personally kill you if you decide to sink your teeth into him."

"When have I ever broken my word?" I ask in a fake and shocked tone, which causes her to punch me in the face. Hard.

The action causes me to laugh and I snap my jaw back into place. Her face turns for half a second, spider veins appearing and disappearing under her eyes before she walks past me and grabs a bottle of blood. Since this school only feeds the vampires animal blood, I take trips no one knows about to the nearest hospital or any of them honestly, and raid their blood supply, bring it back, and bottle it for us and some of the other vampires so we can drink actual blood.

"I have homework to do," she says, starting to walk towards the door. "Remember, best behaviour," she continues before vamping away.

I just shake my head in slight amusement before vamping back to my room. When I get there, I go and sit on the window sill, watching the still Alaskan weather, and hearing all the animals in the distance. After a few seconds, I hear what sounds like a snowmobile in the distance, maybe 20 kilometers away and it's not hard to figure out what it's carrying. The human. If I had the actual energy, I would go down and scold the headmaster for bringing a clueless human here, but at the same time, I couldn't care less about whether or not they actually get killed here. The only reason Ari and I are here in the first place is that she thought it would be the best place to hide from father, seeing as Preston Academy isn't exactly well known to the outside world. I would much rather be out there causing havoc, but considering I don't currently have possession of the dagger, I figured I would go along with my baby sister's plan.

A knock on the door breaks me out of my thoughts and I say, Come in, Jasper."

Jasper walks in a few seconds later with the same unamused face I have and I know he's just as excited about this human taking up residence here.

"I swear Adams has lost his damn mind. Bringing a human to a school full of some of the most powerful vampires, witches, and werewolves? I mean, how dumb can he be?" he says, laughing humourlessly.

"Why exactly is he bringing him here?" I ask.

"Apparently from what the witches say, his parents just died and Adams and his daughter are the only family he has left."

"So? Everyone's parents die eventually. And if he thinks the baby vamps and wolves are going to be able to control themselves is just pure stupidity," I say, jumping off the window sill. "What do you know about him?" I ask, curiosity getting the better of me.
