I wake with a gasp as my eyes shoot open and I quickly realise that I'm being held by someone. Before I can say anything or react, I hear Cas start talking.
"You're alive," I hear him say as he lets out what sounds like a relieved sigh.
"Of course, I'm alive, angel," I say, chuckling a little. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"You just fainted and you didn't have a pulse and even for you, I didn't think that was normal. I didn't know what else to think," he answers, moving slightly so his knees are at my sides.
My back silently thanks him as it's not at an uncomfortable arch anymore and I lean against him more before saying, "Everything's fine, but we do need to get back to the school quickly. It's now urgent that I do the spell I told you about earlier."
"Would either of you mind explaining what the hell just happened?" the sheriff cuts in.
"I didn't realise you were still here," I mumble, looking up at him. Why should we explain ourselves to you, sheriff?"
He gives me a semi-irritated look and says, "How about this, one of you explain what on earth is going on here or I arrest you both for trespassing. Does that work for the two of you?"
Before Cas can say anything in response, I decide to answer. "There's no need to arrest us, sheriff, we were just about to be on our way. I'll fix your little crime scene here and you won't see us near this place again. Does that work for you?" I ask, matching his tone slightly and reaching up a little to mess with Cas' fingers.
"I think I prefer my way a little more. Why don't we start by someone telling me how exactly you managed to get that to appear in the first place?"
"Oh, that? I just snapped my fingers and your little cloaking spell just vanished," I answer simply.
"Cas told me the same thing, but it shouldn't have been that easy. Cloaking spells require much more than just a snap of your fingers to break. Besides, how do you know I cast the spell?"
"I was just as shocked at you, but I watched it happen. Why did you place one on it in the first place?" Cas asks, resting his chin on my head.
I wait to answer the sheriff's question and he answers Cas with, "I tried cleaning it off the cement, but it refused to come off, so I placed a cloaking spell on it so the city wouldn't question it."
"While that's all so very interesting," I start, standing up. "We must be off, I have other obligations to get to today. As for your questions, I'm quite powerful, there's not much I can't do. Plus, I just sort of assumed you were the casting witch, considering your power matched up to that of the spell."
"Even if you are powerful, there are still objects needed in order to break the cloaking spell. Who are you?" he asks again, stepping closer to me.
Once I help Cas up, I step towards him as well and say, "The name's Zai, clearly the pleasure's all mine," while giving him a slight, amused smirk.
He holds eye contact with me for a brief moment before I see a mixture of what can only be shock, disbelief and fear cross his face. "You're him," he whispers, which causes my smirk to grow.
"Good on you, sheriff for figuring it out," I comment, nudging his shoulder playfully. "Is there anything else or can we be on our way?"
"One, uh, one more thing," he starts, his confidence wavering a little. "Why did you two come to investigate this?"
