🚨HIKREI ANGST🚨
Hikori was on edge and Irei could tell. The candy cane boy developed the habit of noticing when his boyfriend's personality changed even before Hikori even knew himself. Irei knew it must've been from the incident with Hasukī's window and a conversation he had with his parents.
Irei was sitting in class but couldn't help but keep looking at his boyfriend. Everytime something was dropped, Irei noticed Hikori jump slightly before cursing under his breath and running his hands over his face with an inaudible, exhausted sigh.
When the bell went for training, Irei followed the other boys to the change rooms. There, he wandered over to his locker; which was right next to Hikori's right, and decided to confront the love of his life.
"Hey, Hik?" Irei began, leaning against the locker, on his side.
"What's up, Rei?" Hikori questioned as he got to work on his tie after removing his blazer.
"You OK?" Irei began to removed his own blazer after standing up properly.
"Why wouldn't I be?"
"You just seem really on edge and I've also noticed dark rings under you eyes starting to from."
"Oh it's nothing."
"Really? Because you've been jumping at every single sound lately. Actually; since we found that stuff on Hasukī-san's window. Has this happened before?"
Irei jumped slightly as Hikori's locker slammed shut.
"There is nothing wrong. I'm fine. I'm not on edge. You don't to worry. I just..." Hikori trialed off.
"You just what, Hikori?" Irei pressed, seemingly wanting his partner to talk to him.
"Nothing. Don't worry about it."
Hikori walked out with a few of the other boys. Irei rushed to finish getting changed before running to join the others.
--
After training, Irei tried to talk to Hikori again by cutting off his passage from exciting the classroom, but allowing everyone else out.
"Irei. Please move. I'm hungry and I need to-"
"Need to what, Hikori?!" Irei cried, getting upset. "Because it seems like you're keeping something from me...!"
"I-I can't... I can't tell you..."
"Are you cheating on me?!" Irei jabbed his finger into Hikori's chest, causing him to begin walking forward and Hikori backwards. "Is that why you can't talk to me?!"
"Irei! I'm not cheating on you...!" Hikori grabbed Irei's hand and held it down, looking at his boyfriend's green eyes; beginning to well with tears. "I would never cheat on you Irei! I've loved you for so long that cheating would be the last thing I would ever do...! Just-Just know what I'm doing is for your own protection."
"What is there to protect me from...?!" Irei began to sob. "Because last time I checked; we haven't seen the villains for ages. Almost as if they've disappeared from the face of the Earth. There is no need to protect me, so please just show me that you love me by talking to me...!"
"I... I can't...! I'm sorry...!" Hikori pushed past and ran out of the classroom, trying not to cry for the fact he can't talk to his boyfriend, but he found it the best way to protect him. By not telling him.
Irei watched as Hikori ran out. As soon as the boy was gone, he hung his head and clenched his fists. A big fat sob wracked his entire body as tears fell from his eyes. He brought his arm to his face and cried into his elbow.
The sound of footsteps stopping before the door were heard but Irei ignored them until big arms wrapped him in a hug; one holding him by the waist and the other in his hair and holding him against his chest.
"Shhh..." The voice soothed. "It's alright..."
"Why won't he talk to me, Dad...?!" Irei sobbed, voice slightly muffled from talking into his dad's chest. "I thought he loved me..."
"He does, Irei..."
"He said he was protecting me from something but he didn't tell me what... What is he hiding and why...?!"
"Sometimes;"Deku pulled Irei away from him and the duo sat on the floor; Irei still in Deku's arms. "The best way to protect someone that you love, in certain situations, it's best not to say as they fear that if they tell their loved ones, they'll get wrapped into the mess and endanger themselves."
"How do you know that...?"
"There was an incident, in our third year, where I had to disappear for an hour or two at a time. Shoto would get up in my case, wanting to know why, and it just made me more scared for the fact that I knew he would try and help. I didn't want to endanger him."
"What where you doing?"
"I was acting as a double agent and giving fake information to the L.O.V and getting access to the L.O.Vs plans and relaying them to the heroes so we could have the leg up. I knew that if anyone was to find out what I was doing, the whole plan would be jeopardized."
"What about Toga, Dabi, Hawks and Twice? Weren't they good?"
"Not at the time but they did help us to take down Shigaraki and All for One during the great war."
"..."
"All I'm saying is that sometimes the best way to protect someone, especially a loved one, is to keep them in the dark."
"... I understand... But it still hurts that he can't trust me enough to tell me..."
"I know. It hurt Shoto, too, and my classmates but when they found out what I was doing in the end; they understood immediately. Just let things play out, Irei and it'll all make sense in the end."
"...alright..."
Little did Irei know was the fact that Hikori had run straight to Eric's office and ran straight into her arms and broke down, telling her how it hurt to keep Irei in the dark as his Papa and Dad had informed his Aunt, Uncle and Grandpas.
He was just wanting to keep his boyfriend and friends safe. But he wasn't expecting it to hurt so much to keep it hidden. He just hoped all of this would be over quicker, even though it had just begun...
