Sunny's boots crunched as he stepped over the dune of brown sugar, the sweet smell filling his lungs with every breath. The atmosphere was cool, despite the sun's harsh glare beating down from its place in the orange-hued sky. Sunny squinted against the light, reminded of spotlights cast into his face like he was a performer on stage. Bright pink entered his vision from the right, as Aubrey stepped past him, her beautiful form in full explorer garb. She brushed her smooth pink hair behind her back, causing Sunny's heart to flutter as much as her hair did in the wind. His gaze drawn to her sparkling hair, he could almost smell fresh strawberries replacing the sugary stench of the dunes.
Aubrey extended a finger, pointing towards the brown pyramid in the distance. "There it is, Sunny. The years we spent researching and exploring have finally paid off. King Orange-mandias' treasure lies in that cookie pyramid!" She turned towards him, stepping closer with a faint smile, putting her arms behind her back almost shyly, her alluring face filling his field of vision as she leaned in. "We couldn't have done it without each other, Sunny." she whispered.
"Sunny." The ground seemed to rumble, the sky seemed to stutter to a blue before turning back.
"I love you so muc-"
"Sunny!" Mari's voice pierced the daydream, causing Sunny's vision to shudder. The orange-hued skyline and brown shifting sugary sands made way to plain white ceiling. Sunny blinked wearily, readjusting his vision to his surroundings, taking in the ceiling and the feeling of couch cloth below him. Ugh. His daydreams always got interrupted at the best times. ... Or was it because he knew they were ending that he would skip them forward to the best bits as fast as he could? His thoughts were interrupted by the smell of sugar wafting over from the plate of hot cookies Mari had set on the coffee table. Mari smiled, watching Sunny sit up from the couch, reaching over for a cookie. "You were lost in your own world again there, Sunny. What were you imagining? A cookie world, perhaps?" Sunny shrugged, biting into the sweet snack. Mmm. Excellent as always.
"Was Aubrey there with you?" Mari teased, grinning as he fervently shook his head no, his ears turning red.
Mari smirked. Sunny always had the cutest tells. "Hehe... You can't trick your big sister, Sunny! Anyway, check this out!" Mari thrust an open dog-earred magazine towards him expectantly, her eyes betraying her excitement. Emblazened on the page was the side profile of a large man in a sharp suit, his arms around an elegant lady in a long, flowing blue dress. On the page, in large font, detailed the location and date for what appeared to be an upcoming ball. "It's in two weeks! Doesn't it look interesting? We should totally invite Aubrey and Hero along!"
Sunny looked into the sparkling eyes of his sister, unconvinced. While another double date seemed nice, the first one didn't really leave a good impression on him. After all, his suit was annoying to wear, and he had to sit through so much teasing from Mari. Aubrey positively shone in that dress, though... and they got their first kiss there... and he received a lot more physical affection from her-
Alright, maybe it wasn't that bad of an impression. Point was, he wasn't interested, and he showed it, his eyes dipping down away from her, his mouth maintaining its perpetual tiny disinterested frown. He didn't know how to dance, either, and didn't particularly care to learn.
"Come on, Sunny!" Mari smirked at him. "Don't you wanna see Aubrey in formal dress?"
Sunny furrowed his brow, finishing off the sweet chocolate-chip cookie he held. Indeed, Mari had put forth an extremely compelling argument. However, having experienced firsthand the heat that builds up when blushing in a suit, Sunny was caught unable to choose. In other words, he thought, he had to experience hell to experience heaven. "...the suit is too warm..." he absentmindedly mumbled through chews.
