Even after 3 straight minutes of plainly standing and hugging, Maddy had not let her go. Teddy thought the silence would do good for Maddy, maybe it was, but it was eating her alive. So she softly asked, wanting to give Maddy a clean slate to start, "Maddy? Are you okay?"
Maddy sniffled. "Yeah. ...Everything's fine," she said letting go. Even if I figure out a way to tell him and get out of it all, I don't think I can ever tell her about it without her leaving me. I wish I could hug her longer.
Teddy didn't let go; she took Maddy's palms keeping a teeny distance between them. "Are you sure? Because you don't look fine."
Maddy couldn't reply, she could only stare up at Teddy with guilty eyes. I can use this as a breakup button! I don't have to tell her now. I can just keep her till I heal and once I do and I'm ready to leave the nest, I can tell her. ...She will fight for me if he came, right? She promised.
Not able to bear Maddy's silence, Teddy looked around and saw a few crates of assorted drinks. She dropped Maddy's hands and shifted two crates from the shelf they were on, to the wall that faced the door, placing them side-by-side.
What if she gets hurt very bad? She will, it's no doubt. He's a giant. Also, I am supposed to be a good person. By lying to her and getting her to fight for me, I make him right about me being a horrible person.
Teddy beckoned Maddy to the seat on her left which was topped by an upside-down empty crate.
Maddy walked over to the seat the girl who loved her made. I don't know what to do! Should I lie to her or not?! I should tell her, she deserves that. I'm telling her.
Teddy took Maddy's right hand in both of hers and spoke, baring a worried expression, "I know we've only been in this relationship for 6 days, but I can't bear to see you sad. I can't see you sad and not be able to help you feel better. I-It's scary as fuck. But I know... I know that some things are just not for sharing, some things are better kept a secret. So you need to tell me if this is something very personal that I can... only unlock at level 100 or something. Tell me if I need to distract you from it or not disturb you at all so that you can solve it on your own. I don't mind if I need to keep away from your view for weeks, arrange for a trip, talk about it for hours or just... be there silently near you. I'll do anything to help you."
This woman is amazing! How can I- I don'twannaloseher!!! I'm losing her anyway because of all these lies. ...No, I can't tell her.
She tightened her grip on Teddy's left hand. "I-I don't know. It's just- I know that I can't exactly... tell you about it. Not-that-I-don't-want-to, it's that... I don't how to put in the right words and make you understand."
"...Does it involve me?"
YEs. "Not. really..."
She smiled with sealed lips. "Okay. ......So do you need to be distracted or left in peace?"
"Distracted," she said with certainty that appeared out of the blue.
"So you wanna continue shopping or catch a film or something?"
"Let's shop. I can't come tomorrow because I have homework to complete and a test to study for and we can't shop after Saturday."
"Okay," she said before placing a soft kiss on Maddy's hand.
Maddy smiled with sad eyes. I will never be what she deserves.
They left Lovers Nook, hand in hand for everyone to see, and took the escalator down to the second shop for the evening.
Teddy set out to distract her girlfriend. "So, tell me. What's your favorite show?" she asked as she leaned on the plastic rail.
Maddy turned to her right. "Um... My all-time favorites would be Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl. Then... I watched Stranger Things this summer."
"Really? I absolutely loved the show. My dream is to have an adventure like that with my friends one day." They got off the escalator.
"To have our town in danger of being eaten by an ugly-ass gooey bitch?"
"Not really... More like, have an awesome summer with my friends, find love, eat a ton shit of ice cream and solve a few hopefully harmless but fun mysteries."
They chuckled. "Yeah, the show's pretty good. I loved Bat-man and Robin duo and Erica's character was just stellar. Like, she's just so adorable, smart and clever."
"Right?? I think she's the best character this season."
"Yeah... And the 80s aesthetic is like so cute with their roller skates, fucking crazy perms, bright colors and mixtapes."
"You like mixtapes?" Teddy asked avidly as they entered a store.
"I like.. the idea? But I've never used it. I'd like to one day though," she said shrugging. Teddy had quickly succeeded in taking Maddy's mind off of her bet against herself. "Why'd you ask?"
"Because I know someone who got so obsessed with Stranger Things that she figured out how to make mixtapes. I can ask her to make you one!"
"Okay... but what songs would you put in it?" she asked starting to look through a rack.
"That's your choice!"
"Hmm... I don't know..." Her eyes then lit up, "What if you made me one?" Shying down, she said, "Aren't mixtapes supposed to be letters from one person to another? Make me one..."
"Okay," Teddy agreed, nodding. She tried to pull down her smile. "Favorite artists and genre?"
"I don't know about genre but I like Lana Del Rey, Arctic Monkeys, The Weeknd and The Neighborhood. Mostly, I listen to whatever's on the radio."
"Hmm... Okay, other than Lana Del Rey, I've heard none of the artists properly enough to make you a playlist."
"How about you... make it in your style?" She turned away from Teddy, pretending to look at another rack for clothes when she was actually trying to hide the fact that she was blushing. "Kinda like, I don't know, something that resembles you so that I feel you're there when I'm like working out or whatever.."
Teddy could see her lover's cheeks rise since her hair was tied up and she let her smile free. "Sure... But, just so you know, it's gonna be all 90s and 2000s rock."
"That's fine!"
"Cool." The two of them let their cheeks redden as they went through the clothes, trying to hide the fact from each other and everyone who knew them.
