Teddy and Maddy danced amongst the sweaty bodies in the flashes of purple and blue light. People stared holes through them trying to figure out if they were friends or just being flirty. After a good 20 minutes of only seeing Teddy, Maddy felt their gazes and decided to ease their tension. She began grinding on her girlfriend.
Teddy tensed up for a second before holding her hips and swaying with the rhythm. Maddy turned to face her lover, Teddy was biting her lip and smiling. Maddy stood on her toes for a kiss.
The news got officially announced, some gasped and some cheered. The couple parted lips and chortled and everyone on the dancefloor continued dancing, unaware of the storm that was going to rain on the parade.
A good while later Daniel, in his Ted Bundy costume, came over to them. He said, "Hey!" as loud as he could over the music. They didn't put in half the effort, they just gave a single wave and mouthed "hey."
He yelled again. "Congrats!"
Maddy's face contorted in confusion, Teddy shook her head to tell she didn't catch him.
Daniel leaned into Teddy's ear, holding her the way Maddy held her about 20 minutes ago. "I said congratulations."
She pulled away from him, pressed her lips into smile and said, "Thanks." Maddy didn't like the fact that he wasn't talking to her.
Maddy got pissed when she saw him lean his face towards Teddy's face again. "Also, thanks for the drinks. I really didn't think you'd help me out."
There were clouds of smoke coming off Maddy when she noticed how close Teddy's face was to Daniel's, her left hand still held Maddy by her hips. "Say thanks to Jake. I wasn't gonna do it, but he wanted to help out his middle school buddy."
Bundy grabbed Teddy in a handshake and locked her in the lean. "Still I owe ya one."
Teddy was gonna shrug it off before she got an idea. "Oh, you know what, you could do something for me. Shouldn't count as a favor."
"Uh... sure bro."
"I'll text you a song. Don't judge, just play it 'kay?"
"Bet."
They shook the locked hands before he left to the bar. Teddy quickly texted him the song's name and turned back to see Maddy mad. With soul-piercing eyes, she asked 'What was that?' in a nod. Teddy bowed down to her right ear as she put her phone back in her pocket and said, "He came to say congratulations to us and thanks for the drinks. Then I asked him to play a song for me. That's all."
"Mmhmm..."
"I'm not kidding," she whined and the song that was playing mellowed to an end and the song she requested grew loud. Everybody stopped dancing and looked around at each other, weirdly. Maddy was about to get scared thinking what people would say if they found out her girlfriend made the request. She looked up at Teddy who was swaying.
From the bar, beside Cassie, Daniel made eye contact with Teddy and contorted his face and moved his hands in a question, 'What's this?'
She replied by mouthing the words to the spoken intro of the song Tubthumping by Chumbawamba. Immediately, loud cheers echoed from only five others. They sounded like banshees wailing out of happiness.
Teddy looked at Maddy and sang the remaining of the intro, "We'll be singin', when we're winnin'. We'll be singin'- 1, 2, 3!" before jumping up and down, holding Maddy's hands. Maddy watched her lover jump like a kid with a confused smile.
Everybody joined the jumping Teddy to only have the familiar song the slow down. They copied Teddy who was trying to slow dance with a perplexedly giggling Maddy. Midway, Teddy's besties came running to where she was dancing with Maddy, who got a hang of it, and they all danced to their song in the dark.
