I blacked out for who knows how long. It felt like forever and a day. Forever and a day with a lifelong headache. I feel my consciousness returning to me and I wonder if I'm dead. Bright lights are the first thing I see and then I wake up in a field.

I'm not supposed to be in heaven.

A ringing floods my ears for a second as I right myself. This is all a bit disorientating. I look around but all I see is a grassy plain, not at all like how Marc and Steven described the Field of Reeds.

Maybe this is hell after all. I stand up, spinning in a circle slowly, trying to figure out what my surroundings even are. Frustrated when everything is the same all around, I let out a loud scream, which scattered some birds I wasn't even aware of.

The setting sun to my left shines in my eyes, but I block it out with my palm, still a bit confused. "Okay... so I ran because Jake told me to," I whisper, trying to get a hold of things, "And then I made it to the River Thames where I was pushed in. I drowned and now I'm here..."

"You shouldn't have done that," Khonshu's low voice rumbles throughout the field, instilling fear in me.

"Yeah, well. You said I could leave at any time, so I am!" I yell, spinning to try and find where he is but not seeing anything.

"You were right when you said I cheated Marc and Steven. They should have read the fine print," he says ominously, "You aren't allowed to leave just yet." Still glancing around furtively, trying to find where he is.

Suddenly, the birds stop chirping and the sun finally lowers behind the Earth, the last few rays of light reaching out to me as if they were pleading to be saved. I back up a bit, creeped out, but my waist bumps into something, the object clattering, bruising my hip badly as I stumble.

I hop back up quickly to see what I bumped into. A table with a game of chess, most of the pieces knocked over. Khonshu sits at one end of the small table, and there's an empty chair, waiting for me.

"What is this?" I ask, confused.

"I highly doubt you've never seen chess before," he says, fixing the board with a wave of his hand, "I'm a gambling man... but unfortunately nobody knows how to play Senet these days. Chess is the next best thing."

Sitting down, I glare, "Fine, let's play."

"Not so fast, young one. To play chess with me... you need to... endure something," he states, vague per usual. Sometimes I just wish he would elaborate more.

"Endure what?" I ask but he doesn't say anything. I can feel my brain being pulled in another direction and my vision goes blurry. "God dammit, Khonshu! Endure what!" I yell before I disappear.

Another disorientating blackout before I wake up face first on some sort of dirty stone floor. I push myself up off the floor and dust myself off.

"Welcome to the maze of your memories," Khonshu's voice echoes through wherever I am, "The exit is somewhere in this maze. Open every door you come across and you'll find."

"EASY PEASY!" I yell at the sky, not sure where he is.

"We'll see..." the voice goes quiet.

I huff, kicking a wall but ultimately crying out in pain. Now I'm angry and hurt. Frustrated, I look around, seeing a door nearby. I open it, seeing a memory of me falling into the river. This must be where all my more recent memories are.
