♡︎ — act ii. man of many namesCHAPTER EIGHT — two cats and a mouse
❀
A defeaning silence hung in the hair for a moment before the muffled pleads of Billy's comrads had begun to travel up and down the block.
"Billy let's go!" One called out, impatience lingering in his tone as another took a crack at him.
"Come on!" Another wailed desperately.
"Take him down." Someone else ordered before the almost automatic sound of rapid shots began to fill my ears. The surprising series of sounds causing people to scream in panic, their quickened footsteps could be heard through the metal surface of the trunk door as my eyes flickered to different spots in the almost pitch black space for some miraculous way out.
Glass continued to shatter and bullets continued to fly as the vehicle rumbled to life, the violent shake of my body snatching that last little feeling of hope from me when I realized that we were going to pull off any second now.
The soles of my feet made a rough impact with the side of the trunk as the car sped away from its previous spot in a rush to avoid the commotion going on in the background. The sounds of rapid shots fading into the distance the farther we got from the stand off.
I could feel myself slowly slip in and out of a horror stricken state due to how dark and quiet it had become once we had left the scene. My chest heaved in a silent panic as my body had become weaker and less motivated. The only source of noise being the car's engine as it ran with time.
Not only had I already been brought to a second destination, but I'm on my way to a third. My chances of survival have gone from a solid zero, to a negative zero in the matter of an hour.
A slow passing, quiet hour.
The sudden jolt of my restraint figure didn't make it any better as I listened in on the other vehicles following behind that had skirted to a stop around the same time.
"God damn that was insane. You guys okay?" The driver huffed in adrenaline charged excitement as he exited the car.
"Man, what the hell just happened?" The sound of car doors opening and closing echoed repeatedly throughout whatever structure we had pulled into as I attempted to calm my rigid breathing in order to listen in.
"Ask the maniac in the car." A displeased voice responded heinously from beside the vehicle.
Shrugging off the snide comment, another voice joined in on the conversation. Impatience laced in his tone as he spoke. "How much do you think we got?"
