05 | the attack & the truth
"ADMIT IT," GLENN BEGAN, "YOU ONLY CAME backto Atlanta for the hat."
"Don't tell anybody." Rick lightly chuckled, playing along with Glenn's jokes. They all were in a state of disbelief over what had just happened. Giving up half their guns and ammo for another group just trying to survive showed Emerson who Rick was. All of his interactions with Guillermo showed her what kind of cop he was sure, but offering guns up that were worth so much? Well, in truth, it showed her how kind he was. He didn't hesitate. He didn't ask for anyone else's thoughts, he just did it.
And that earned him more respect than anything else.
"You gave away half our guns and ammo." Daryl spat. The comment made Emerson roll her eyes. She figured he was just upset over the loss of Merle. After giving away the guns, they combed through a few streets, but they had no luck of finding the eldest Dixon.
"Not nearly half." Rick retorted with a scoff.
Emerson then spoke, "We all need to be able to defend ourselves, Dixon. Their blood would have been on our hands by association had we not helped them out."
Daryl just rolled his eyes, not wanting to believe a word that spewed out of her mouth, "They were a bunch'a old farts anyway. Seriously, how long ya think they got?"
"How long do any of us?" Rick asked, wanting an honest answer from the crossbow wielding hot head.
Though one never came as they finally came up on their box truck. "Home sweet home." Emerson muttered, fishing through her pockets for the keys.
Her finger fell upon the key ring just as T-Dog asked, "Who's got the keys?"
All eyes were on Emerson. She started to look in her pockets once more in a much more dramatic tone. She made a face that she hoped would be read as if she couldn't find them. Their eyes went wide as they realized she lost them.
"Kidding!" She broke out into a grin, holding the keys up in between her fingers, "Mind if I drive again, boys?"
"No!" Came a loud shout from every one of them.
With all being said and done, Rick slid into the driver's side and Emerson sat in the passenger's seat. The rest of them sat in the back and were quick to fall asleep. They had at least a forty five minute drive back to the quarry.
