After the boys left all Mavis wanted to do was talk about them. I told her to save it for Dr. D, she told me she couldn't wait that long. So I listened to her, for three hours. I won't relay every conversation we had, but they all went something like this:
"That was so fun June! We should have them over again."
"Yeah."
"Ya know what June? I think Scott kinda liked me."
"Yeah."
"He kept talking to me about my, ya know, mental issues."
"Yeah."
"Normally that would upset me, but he was really understanding about it." "Yeah."
"And I think Sean likes you. Don't try to fight me on it cause I know these things."
"Yeah."
"June are you even listening to me?"
"Yeah."
Needles to say I wasn't actually listening to her. Maybe I was the first time, but by the third time I was over it.
On another note, Donny would be happy to hear about this. This is the type of thing he's been waiting to hear about. This means all his hard work is actually doing some good. Of course I don't think it's his doing, I think it's been in Mavis all along. She could socialize once, I think she knew she could socialize again when necessary. Either way it will be a good story for her to tell him.
---------------------------
The next morning Mavis is up bright and early. Well okay she was up at nine, that's pretty early for Mavis. I don't know why she's up this early her appointment isn't until later. I'm not complaining though cause she made a nice breakfast for me. She made donuts, like homemade donuts. Don't even ask me how she made them cause I have no idea, all I know is that their really good. She also put out some fresh cut pineapple, my favorite fruit by far. I'll have to invite the boys over more often if this is the outcome.
"Good morning Juniper, did you sleep well?" Mavis asked as I walked into the dinning room.
"Oh yes, I slept very well." I answer as I take a seat next to her.
"That's wonderful! How is the donut?" She says, rather over-enthusiastically I'd say.
"It's really good Mavis now tell me what's going on."
"Nothing. I have no idea what you're talking about nothing is going on."
"Right. Cause you wake up early and make breakfast every morning. Not to mention your uncharacteristic inquisitions about how I slept. "
"Okay fine Scott texted me this morning and it put me in a really good mood. "
"That's it? You could have told me that."
"Well that's not exactly it. There's more. I may have invited him over for breakfast."
"Oh, I get it. This isn't for me this is for him. That's cool, but I still don't understand why it was such a big deal."
"Well I kind of need you to sit in here with me. It's the only way I'll be comfortable enough to talk to him. I figured I should get you in a good mood since I'm basically asking you to give up your entire morning."
"Mavis you don't have to get me in a good mood to ask me. Tell me, what else do I have to do that I wouldn't be able to chaperone your date?"
"Read Gatsby?"
"I finished that, I'm currently not reading anything so looks like my morning is free to help you."
"Thanks June, you're a good sister, ya know that?"
"I try Maz, I try. So when is Scott coming over?"
"At ten. Oh shit that's in half an hour. I have to clean up."
"Nah you look fine. Like you just finished baking a delicious breakfast. So just wondering, doesn't Scott have class? He is in school right?"
"Yeah, but doesn't have class third period. He originally asked if I wanted to go out to eat, but I told him that would take too long and invited him here. Also I figured it would be less awkward if you ate with us here. It could seem like you're eating with us cause you happen to be here instead of because I need you to be here."
"Good thinking Maz. Well if he's gonna be here soon I should at least out on a bra. I'll be back." I say as I leave the dining room and head to my bedroom.
I was only planning to change but after smelling myself I decided a shower was needed. I try to shower and dress quickly, but apparently I took longer than I thought because Scott is already here when I walk downstairs. Him and Mavis are sitting at the dinning room table. Scott seems to be talking to her, but Mavis is definitely not replying. To be honest Scott is probably a little scared, Mavis is sort of just staring at him like he grew a second head. He knows she has problems though so he should understand. I swoop in to save the day before Mavis completely embarrasses herself.
"Hey Scott, I see you and Mavis are enjoying yourselves. She's real chatty isn't she? Can't even get a word in she just won't shut up, huh?" I tease.
"Oh yeah definitely. It's nice to see you again. I would have invited Sean, but he doesn't have a third hour free period. Also I didn't know you would be here."
"Yeah why would I be at my own house? Like what? That's crazy."
"June, be respectful." Mavis says suddenly.
"Sorry Scott, I knew if anything would get her to talk it would be the need to stop my inappropriate behavior. " I apologize sarcastically.
"It's no problem, anything to get Maz to talk right?"
"Well that's what her doctor always says."
"Okay you can stop acting like I'm not here now. I'll join in the conversation just be patient." Mavis snaps. Nothing gets her talking like making her mad.
"If you say so Mavis. So Scott, how've you been? Ya know, since last night." I ask Scott politely.
"I've been alight. I've had two hours of school, they weren't terrible. How about yourself?"
"Well I woke up to a tastey breakfast so I'd have to say I'm doing quite splendidly."
"Splendidly? Who the hell talks like that?"
"Uh..Me?" I can't believe how rude he just was like woah.
"Now I see why Sean likes you. The guy has the weirdest vocabulary of anyone I've ever met."
"Sean likes me?"
"Oh shit. You aren't supposed to know that. Just pretend you have no idea okay?"
"Oh. Uh, sure."
"Mavis you won't tell either will you?" Scott asks.
"Well I'll have a hard time keeping it a secret from all my friends. You know I'm a real chatty Cathy." Mavis replied sarcastically.
"Well she seems to be talking now, so see ya later. Have fun Mavis." I say, and leave the room knowing I'll hear all about this later.
